OIL COOLER QUESTION

thats what im saying or thats what we did it seem to work fine just alot of people think it cost alot it must have some sort of magical shit in it but thats not always the case it may but i think it just cool thats why thay cost so much

If that is how the stock ones are, they have to one of the most overpriced, inefficient ones ever made. Be better off with just a coil of bare copper tubing!

i couldent aford two coolers it looked goofy with just the one so i got the stash tube keep my paper work in it the cops know to look in them so you cant hide shit in them i asked my dealer he dident see why it wouldent work i just cant find time to do mine

Thanks Omar. I am curious as hell now, I may take a look inside mine and see what the guts of a cooler are next time I have the oil drained. With the exterior of the cylindar being fins, like they are I figured the cylindar just fills with oil and circulates back. If any body has already done this tell us about it. Thanks.

Let me know what you find out. If it is just a simple container with in and out, I would be shocked. That said, who knows for sure. What I will say if it does bare out to be such a simple design, it is a very piss poor one at that and shocking to see them make it that way. I say this with some knowledge and a ME background, but then again I do not know everything nor will I ever know everything.

Talked to a mechanic that formally worked for our BDM before they closed. He said that the oil coolers aren't all they are supposed to be...better off with a high flow filter, and going with a good quality synthetic fluids through out. No matter what, the best cooling only occurs with ample air flow. The mistake most people make is thinking the oil cooler helps when stuck in traffic on a hot day...if you don't have air flow, then the heat exchange is marginal at best. :flag:

Here is something I ran across that seems to make the most sense. Never heard of the company nor have I every seen one of these, but the concept seems to make the most sense for a good cooler.

Anyone actually seen one of these on any bikes??

im not saying the cooler dosent have some fancy shit in it i dont know i was just trying to save some dollars you got to admit thay look good and the cost are high but there is alot of machine work in them

Why hell yeah I understand, I finished 4th grade English and all...... why didn't ya just say that in the first place??? The reason I was looking into modifying the stash tube to an oil cooler is because there aint shit you can stash in that tall skinny cylinder unless like you want to carry a pen, a cigar, a comb, or a dildo. Besides those items, everything I have wanted to stash, wouldn't fit. So I was wondering if the internal guts AKA "oil gallery" (of which Eric has enlightened me upon) could be acquired and installed since basically the tubes are the same. Now in your opinion (which I do value, even if I get smart sometimes) is double oil coolers a waste of time and money. :loony:

Come on man you could put an ounce of coke in there pretty easy! LOL You'll ned to run a couple hoses out of it though and dead end way up under your motor so the cops won;t figure it out.

1.if you wanted 2 oil coolers you shoulda bought 2 oil coolers...
2.if you cant put nothing into the stash tube,why'd you buy it..
3.before you found out the stash tube serves no purpose whatsoever
would've been a good time to decide not to spend a whole lot more money
having it diamond cut

WANT to hear just take the guys advice without shittin on him
