Oil coming from rubber drain hose????

This isn't the same issue but my dealer sold me a twin cam oil filter and that filter made oil blow out the breather hose all over the right side of my bike. They couldn't figure out the problem and I eventually figured it out. I have a K&P S4 on the way.

Here's my take on this messy subject-

Twin Cam oil filters are designed with a 10 micron filter element. The proper oil filter to use is one designed for the Evolution style engines with at 20-30 micron filter element.

If you use a low flow filter having a 10 micron particulate filtering capacity it will not have the flow rate needed for the Evolution style engines. As the engine runs using a 10 micron filter the oil return pump restriction causes an oil backup through the filter. This causes the engine oil to excessivley accumulate in the engine sump. As the oil builds up the crankshaft counterweights begin to throw the oil and froth the oil then kick it out the breather hose.

I like using this filter because it's a 10 micron? with higher flow and has a nut on the end for easy removal plus it has all the good stuff inside, anti-flowback valve etc.. If your oil level is correct, removing oil from the tank is not the proper fix for this situation - replacing the filter with the proper one is!

If you're blowing trans oil after a service, there's a good chance it has been overfilled.

T-Cal wasn't the black hose you mentioned the Tranny Overflow/Vent hose? If so and you still have the problem, just warm it up, drain the tranny and add your favorite flavor of 20oz of tranny fluid. Good chance it was overfilled and if you were using RedLine HD ShockProof before, even great chance due to thickness of the HDSP and possibly not having it all drained out when changed last and then with the new oil added, leading to an overfill situation.

Excellent point Fibersnake! A cold tranny drain would do it. The dealer probably just measured 20oz. in a measuring cup and poured it in. There is a short dipstick on the trans fill plug. Just drain out a little bit and check it - no need to drain it all.

Very good possibility since most of the dealers tend to like working on cold bikes and since time is money, may be more rushed and not insure it is all out. If it is the thick stuff even more likely. May be able to use a GasMan Dog Baster and pull some out through the dip stick like you mentioned also.

But hell if nothing else, it give him a reason to ride to the liquor store and get a cold one or two along with a good cigar and then when he gets, home let that warmed up baby drain while he sets back and enjoy the cold refreshement and nice smoke. The jsut add the proper amount and make another run to the store to give it a test! :2thumbs:
