Ok well some of you know I finally moved home from the sunshine state. That salt air did a number on my dog while there so I am in the process of polishing, cleaning, fluids, etc... Well I decided instead of wanting to polish my Stainless Creation pipes I wanted to just wrap the top half of the X. So scoot is in a million pieces in the garage and I tried to remove the pipes. NOT HAPPENING :angry::angry: I have the flanges off, but the pipes seem to have shrunk . I can not get them out of the cylinders. Any ideas before I have to cut a $1000 set of pipes in half and purchase another set???????? I have an exhaust leak so they have to come off, no just bolting them back up.:bang::bang:

Just a note, the pipes seem to have "shrunk" in the middle" forcing the 'Flanges" into the cyllinders.

I have tried to call Clint and just get a disconnected notification on the one number and fax on the other.

Anyone with any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it

get hold of some high temp. gloves (some have been advertised on tv lately available at targets, i think) for use in the kitchen good up to about 550 degrees. run the bike and get the exhaust hot and see if they will come off then. they should expand some. don't know how you would get them back on if this works but getting them off is better than cutting them.

another thought, if there is enough room between the exhaust and the pushrod tubes, maybe a woodworking bar clamp that can be reversed to spread with some blocks of wood in the bends of the headers would force them apart enough to get them off. the wooden blocks would help keep from denting the headers.

good luck

Sounds like a Chinese finger puzzle.

Speading them like Woodbutcher mentioned above would be my first attempt if there's room.

If you do have to cut them.....I would cut them midway on the forward or rear horizontal runner so they could be modified for a slip joint. The modification and rechrome would cost less I bet. Then they could be removed easier next time.

Common issue with many 2 into 1 pipes, had a similar problem with a couple of the pipes I had. I ended up using a small bottle jack and 2 pc. of wood and spread them. When I put them back on I had to tweak them back inward slightly so they sealed good.

Thanks for the replys, I never thought about the bottle jack for spreading. They dont lack much but it is more than I am able to "pull" apart. Will give it a shot in the morning. Thanks!!!!

I would cut them a the step . When you have them re-welded have them ceramic coated or powder coated instead of chromed . They would look great in black and no bluing problems. Just a thought.

Thanks for the help!!!

Man you guys are good......I would of had to cut them off and put my stock pipes back on :D
:eek::eek: I would only do that if I could get my hands on a set that still have the baffles in them :spank::spank:

Well I want to thank you for the replys, this morning I hit them with a little heat from a cutting torch and they slid right off. Now here is the plus side to stainless pipes, polish them right back out :D . I wanted to wrap them to give the a little different look and prevent the gold color from showing! Here is the finished product off the bike!

Thanks everybody, I had to make some minor adjustements with a bottle jack...... But they are bolted back up and now the bike wont start. Battery shows full juice but powers everything up for about 5 seconds and then goes out. Battery still showing full, but I figure it must be shot, going to start there............

As for how loud they are, they are really loud on decel pop for sure hehehehe
