Bought my Dog 6 Months back and need to figure this out I have searched the forum but I think mine is a similar problem but different.

Key on and Odometer reads 09880 (never changes) for approx a second or so.

Then it will default to the trip which counts just fine, if i hit the trip button it will go to 1580 (and counting). and the trip resets normally. I am trying to figure out if someone toyed with it before i bought it or if it is inop. either way I would love to know what the problem is. I assume I will never know the true mileage since I bought it used, any insight would be great.

Thanks I have seen alot of info about the dakota digital, I am more looking for info on the mileage is it common for the stock odometer to stop calculating.
I am curious since my trip still rolls as it should, is there an hour counter on the stock odometer. I am trying to figure out the differnce between the two numbers besides the trip that pop up 9880(which never changes), and 1590 which rolls with the mileage

The first display that shows and disappears is what is called the pulse count. This is the factory calibration, and should be 6 digits. The Pulse Count, calibrates the reading from the speedo sensor on the Trans and converts to miles. On my '05 the correct pulse count is 98720 (but you are saying you only get 4 digits? 9880?). After 3 seconds it will display an hour meter for 3 seconds. After that it displays trip meter or Odometer ( depending on what was last used.)

My 1st question is does the speedometer seem to read correct or does it seem way off?
If it reads way off, it maybe set to KM instead of Miles. If no dot is present and your speedometer seems way of, the pulse count may be incorrect. If your speedometer seems to read way off, there is a field calibration that I can walk you through, this not only will correct registered speed but will adjust the actual total miles on your odometer.

If it is set for KM/h, it would show a dot between the 1st and second digit.
Let me know if the speed seems way off before I direct you any further.

No it seems spot on with MPH. the pulse count as you called it when i first turn it on reads 09880. then as you said hours come up for a few seconds it reads 63.8 then it goes to trip/odometer. The trip and Odometer seem to read correctly, I just am not understanding this pulse count. And the dealer I bought it from listed the pulse count as the miles. so obviously it has way less miles than orignally thought? If I am correct in this I need to have a Dealer verify for me so I can have it Documented for my records. Thanks for the info an let me know if what I am assuming is correct?

The Pulse count should never change (unless you manually re-cailbrate it, it is a code for the speed sensor to correctly convert transmission pulse to MPH). If your title shows the pulse count as miles then it's wrong.

Once running and the pulse count the hours goes away(after several seconds). You can either toggle via the button on the speedo, to show either trip miles or actual total miles. (if you press and hold button down, trip meter will re-set to 0.)

The hours you stated are relatively low! My 5 year old lawn mower has 300 hours already!

Sounds like you defianetly have a low hours, low mile bike!

Hey Thanks for all the good information. I just need to take it back to the dealer I bought it from and have them certify the true mileage on my documents for when and if I ever sell it.
