also, if you have any plans to upgrade the cam, make sure you go to roller rockers and get it over with. no need spending money twice.

yeah i hear the ticking. i took it in to get looked at when i first got it, shop said it was fine, just something with the bigger motor. had i not found this site, i would never have thought anything of it anymore. to be honest though, i'm used to the noise. it's looking like the more i read on this forum, the more i find out the big dog is not running right.
i guess when i have $700 - $900 bucks laying around, i'll change out the boxes. but to be honest, i have just over 10,000 miles and have not had a single major problem with the pitbull.

thats awesome, had a few problems nothing major.. my volt reg. start shorting out it started smoking on me . dealer said mine wasnt one under a recall why i dont know. wasnt but 80 bucks no biggy. other than that my plugs would carbon foul (black sooty) on me if choke used or idle much i readust carb pretty good so far. think it was little to rich we will see best i can till no gaskets leaking from getting it little hot at a parade. thats the only thing worried me about plugs carbon fouled thought maybe mid head gasket might of blowed but it runs to good for them problems. i think if any carb gaskets or intake gaskets leaked it would run lean from sucking air..

Bad Chad.
Don't use the enrichener unless absolutly neccessary. will foul up your plugs fairly quickly. My bike will start at 50 dgrees with out it and I just keep the idle up until its warm and will maintain on its on. If your idle is set to low the tach should flash should be around 950-1000 RPMs and this should help with oil pressure at idle.
If your boxes aren't making excessive noise you may not need to change them. The 05 manual calls for four turns on the pushrod for adjustment. There is a foot note that states if excessive noise is present adjust the pushrods for three turns.
Don't know that all TP boxes are bad. Ray has about 60,000 miles on his and others have high miles as well.
Might start off with some adjusting and tuning and go from there.
Things can be finiky. The oil light on the 05 Pit I had would come on if water (rain) got into my left hand control! Go figure.

thanks v ,i learned that about the enricher, very seldom does it even get cold here in texas. i think i will do little adjusting see what happens. whats the best way of getting the instructions on this. do i need to go ahead and order new rocker gaskets. the ones on it or new but i figure need to go ahead and be safe.. is this correct? i now little about it. just wanted do it right first time.

speedo, tapping.
Your right about the speedo, tickover needs turning up until the 2nd square is lit, once it all starts flashing god knpws what can occur. As for the top end tapping, had this all investigated myself. It seems to get louder, but its cos you listen out for it more. damn irritating but common.

You won't see the damage unless you remove the heads and disassemble the valve springs, keepers, and valves to see if your guides have been egg shaped
unless you have a oil burning issue or smoking issue. If you want to try anything and see if it will fix the problem, adjust the pushrods, clean the tappet screen, buy the correct oil filter and the correct motorcycle oil for your type bike and temp you run in........

bad chad, try adjusting first but go to the "how to section" here first, good info there. You have to collapse the lifter first and it takes a little patience to do this correctly. Be sure to remove the plugs and roll the engine over with the rear tire by hand to be sure nothing is binding after adjustment. Also if you change the rocker boxes over to S&S you might as well have heads done and change the valves to stock S&S also. The 2005's have the "EPA" motors and smaller valves in them. Go to the "how to section".

thanks guys, guess im fixin to tackle it. i will let yall know how it goes. when yall say correct oil filter and oil what are yall recommened. local shop did mine so i dont know what oil filter it is. oil is castrol gtx 20-50. might change to royal purple. what yall think on oil filter???????
