nothin but big dog problems

Energy One
I bought a 2005 bigdog chopper for 30,000 dollars from big dog have had six starters about five battery covers replaced broken clutch cable the cable didnt brek the crappy aluminum ring attatched did the final drive belt sheared of going 70 down the highway I could have been killed.

just before the belt came apart it was in for its 15,000 mile service yes I like to ride but I keep my bike in check.
always leaking oil. I lost all hope the bike looks good but everytime I ride it some thing breaks im afraid this motorcycle is going to kill me one day but big dog has there money my warranty is expired and ive had all my services. Today I gave up on my big dog dealer and Im goin to do all repairs on my bike. Has any body had a belt shear goin down the highway and if you did what caused it might save me some time. Once I found an exit I pulled off and found 1/2 inch of final drive belt left . It was 1"1/8

Oh IF YOU HAVENT HAD ANY PROBLEMS WAIT TILL YA GET SOME MILES ON THAT DOG.

obviously you are upset with you experience with you Dog but, if you have read any at all on this forum you would realize that a large part of the members really do ride their bikes. one member, raywood, has close to, if not already, 60000 miles on his 05 Chopper and had some 25000 on his previous 03 mastiff. some of us have had problems some have been fortunate so far. through this forum we have learned the ins and outs of these bikes and what to expect from them and how to manage their symptoms. a previous poll on this forum showed that 80% of us would buy another one if the opportunity presented itself.

as for your belt, it sounds to me like you may have picked something up off the road that damaged the belt. they are tough but not indestructible.

I appreciate your words and it is frustrating as diffrent bikes have different personalities. And im glad to hear of others who have had very good experiences with there bikes I have enjoyed mine when it allows me to.

Miles? Well you need to talk to Raywood about that. Sounds like your mechanic is smoking crack while he works on your shit. If you have the ability wrench it your self. As far as that belt shredding, you have bad pulleys or an alignment problem or both.
LOL

PS good looking bike!

I know how you feel about the side covers. I've had 2 sets, one for paint and the last one for cracks. Big Dog has a new mount style that they should put on you scoot under a recall that shouldn't cost you. as for the starters, if it was because they got oil soaked from the primary, there is a new seal kit that fixes this issue. hope you can get things worked out.

Man dont be down my dog has 22k on it. I put 5k on it and the only thing that ive done is adjust the carb and fix the primary chain that was too tight. Each dog is different, I ride mine like I stole it and the only thing needing fixing is my back tire, it is getting hammered but the old dog keeps on growling. As far as the harley boys they stay behind me eating my dust. So I would buy another one tomorrow but that is just me though......

There have been a lot of rants that ended up being bad service by the Stealers. Most Stealers don’t have the techs needed to work on a custom. They are Harley leak plugers.:job:

hey I had to vent! The bikes runs good I just expected more quality. now that the warranty is expired ill just wrench like I did with the harley. after I got the fat boy I had slammed chromed and fast some punks stole it.

What a great first post!!! NOT!

As said... sounds like some of those problems are your mechanic... I suggest you read thru the tech section and how to section. Ditch that mechanic and start doing your own wrenching.

I have a 2005 Chopper that has had a few problems and I was just as pissed at Big Dog as you are. But after reading this forum I realized that my problems were not as bad as I thought and that the enjoyment of riding a Big Dog off-sets some of the problems I've had. I also know several guys with new Harleys that are not happy either. I'm not a MC mechanic, but am handy with tools and am not afraid to turn a wrench. This site helped me a great deal to that end and now I service my Chopper rather than take it to a dealer. Hang in and enjoy the ride.

I agree 100% These bikes are factory hotrods and prone to small problems ..get to know your bike and keep it in tune and adjusted ,if your looking for a cookie cutter get a Harley ...As much attention as this bike draws its worth it!!! I can park my ride outside the bar and everytime it draws people to it ...the best part is that I love riding it, well balanced, quick and comfortable!!!!
