Stupid me did not notice the depth of the oil drain plug on an 08 Ridgeback before I pulled it out for the first time. When I put er' back in half the threads are showing! Does not appear cross threaded, does not leak. How does everyone elses look?

Thanks JJ

If yours is like mine, those are tapered pipe threads. Some threads should be showing. It is a good practice to use Teflon tape or a small amount of pipe thread sealant when working with tapered pipe threads. The tapered plug goes into a tapered hole and the more the two engage, the more they seal. You should have a couple of threads showing, that is normal. There is a formula to the design of tapered pipe threads.

Blue Loctite really shouldn't used on pipe threads. There are Loctite products specifically for pipe threads, blue Loctite isn't one of them. Tapered pipe threads rarely come loose. The blue Loctite I think you are talking about is a thread locker. The thread lockers work by filling the space between the threads and preventing the fastener from coming loose due to the fact that all of the available space between the threads is now gone preventing any movement. Most pipe thread sealants stay pliable to a certain degree. Thread lockers do not. Thread lockers, if used correctly, cure to a hard plastic like material.

Thats the way it should be. Don't overtighten as you can keep expanding the drain hole in the tank.:2thumbs:
