I just bought a 06 mastiff and have noticed noise coming from the front jug, sounds like its noisy rockers. What to do or how to check it out:flag:

could be as simple as adjusting your pushrods, or, the question that needs to be asked, how many bolts are holding on the rocker covers, 4 or 6??? 4 is TP and 6 is S&S. you want 6. BDM used the TP (total performance) because they felt like they were close enough to the S&S geometry to save a few $$$ but they missed the mark and there have been failures with them (sometimes catastrophic). pushrod adjustment should be tried first. (try the old screwdriver to the ear trick to try to locate the noise)

Thanks all, I do have the 6 bolts holding down the cover, don't know how to sound byte but will take a screw driver to narrow down the noise.:flag:

Okay so I am unlucky enough to have the TP Covers and also have this sound coming from the front jug. Can I adjust the pushrods to get rid of the noise at all?

I would not say you are unlucky enough to have the TP. Many have such without problems, hell if not mistaken the mileage king Raywood is approaching 100k still with the TP. I think it is more hit and miss than a for sure problem. I have over 30k on mine, though back when it was in warranty they did do the top end with S&S but kept the TP boxes (go figure), but they are still going strong. So best advice is inspect them occasional and adjust the same. Do a search and there is good DIY advise on adjusting the pushrods.

hollywood, tim has it right. adjust the pushrods and keep an eye and ear on things. just be ready for it and maybe it will never raise it's head.

Hey everyone.... 05 Bulldog with TP rockers, I've had the same noisy ticking with mine. Tried every thing with pushrod adjusting. Then my rear cylinder began to smoke real bad.
Tore it down and sent it to shop. The tapping was valve guides, 1 valve guide tore from the head and was in 3 parts, I am lucky i caught it before it smoked the engine. I feel lucky total shop work is $450 and parts supplied by me are $225. Found a set of new S&S pistons for the 117 on Ebay for $99. I will be on the road by next friday.

It's ok, funny how I build engines but MC engines intimidate me, never opened one before. Can anyone direct me on how to start the push rod adjustment thing?
