Hi all, i've been checking ya'll out for a while. This is an awesome site, thanks for making me feel welcome. My question is than sometimes my heads seen noisey, not all the time but about every third time I start it. I,ve called the dealer, they say that some motors are just nosiey. By the way I have a 2007 K-9, 117 ci, big radius pipes, crane 4, any feed back will be appreciated. Rock on ya'll ! :)

How noisey? What did you ride before? Maybe just normal for your big motor. I happen to think these newer Evo motors are 100 times quiter than the old Shovelheads!

Welcome to the site,
Ray

hey Moe & Ray thanks for the replies. The K-9 has always been a little noisey ever since I purchased it. Ive got about 9300 miles on the old dog and by the way loving every mile. The sometime rattle bothers me too. I even changed the oil and filter to Amsoil and still heard alot of rattling the other night. I called the dealer and they said if it keeps up the rattling to bring it in. About four month ago I had it at the dealer, they removed the tins and checked the rocker arms and rod sleeves, said the all lokked great. Im perplexed.

get a stethescope and try to pinpoint.

might just be a loose vent tube in the tank.

saying its not necessarily inside the motor.

take off your gas cap and right at the neck theres a mount that a tube is welded to the bottom of it. on my bike the weld broke and the tube would vibrate at a certain rpm only. sounded like the valves were coming out the motor. took a while to figure it out.

Are you running the stock cam? Running a high lift cam with improper selected valve springs will cause valve slap noise as well.

06 K-9 here. I have what sounds like valve train noise. I put a couple of ounces of good ole STP oil treatment in with my synthetic oil and it actually seems to be quite a bit quieter! I don't know it it will last; but, I think I can tell a real difference for the time being. Remember the ads for STP? Causing the oil to stick to stuff better? Anyway...maybe someone else has also tried this?
