morning.... here is issue:
05 rb with brand new wiring throughout. tired 3 different batteries (one was a braille, other lithium, other lead acid) all charged up.
Also switched out starters (out of the bike they spin over fine), also just put open primary on....
When i turn key on i get good lights (headlight, tail etc), but when i go to crank i just get a BUZZ sound. Checked grounds to frame and even replaced lead...no luck. Maybe i have to replace ground to starter.....
Any ideas that i have missed? It is a new wiring kit from Curtis...

I bet it's the open primary. Which one you go with? Starter not lined up right? Maybe it's binding and can't throw the gear out?

Or like the others said can you even turn by hand?

1+ When you put on a belt drive you need to shim the starter so it's in the correct angle. Do you have the right jackshaft?

Gotcha... i will check turning belt n starter shim..... Starter did seem a lil hard going in. I will check. It is a karata 4" open.

Where did you say the buzz is coming from? I've heard of a buzzing issue coming from the connector which connects to the module on the RIP or ESC. That is caused by a low battery, just so you know in case that's where the buzzing sound is coming from.

Thanks brew... i will double check... Hard to localize it, but i would say that general area!
The belt does turn by hand..... still maybe i need spacer to allow starter plunger to engage! Fun Fun Fun....

Every open belt I've put on required a different jack shaft. The stock one doesn't work. Did you get a new jack shaft with it?
With the Karata the stock should actually work.

BTW, where the hell did you get the Karata? Haven't heard much from them in a while. Is it used or they make it up for ya?

For 2005 and up you do not need to get a new starter gear with Karata, they were made specifically for our dogs. What were all the parts you got with the open belt drive assembly?
