No spark input

Hey guys, well if its not one thing its another. Just got my bike back on the road 2 weeks ago after a starter fiasco and now I go out to start my bike this morning and it wont crank. Trys and try but wont turn over. I smelled gas so first thing I checked was spark...nothing, no spark from the wires on either side. Well I put the meter to the wiring connector at the coil and I have 12V on the battery side on just one pin, red wire I believe. I haavent tested while pushing the start button yet. Im assuming I should have 12V there when pressing the start button and should be on more than just the red wire right? Im thinking bad coil has anyone dealt with this that can help me make sure I test correctly? The ignition module does light up for a sec or two when the key is turned on and I get the little green light when I press the starter button so Im thinking coil I just want to make sure, Thanks!

Turn the key on, push the "Run" button, look at the red LED on the ignition module.
No RED LED on then you likely have a bad cam sensor.

I ran the battery down so I'm charging now, ill have to check that out later. I think I saw the green blinking but no red

Ok so I went through this set of tests, turned on key, flipped switch to "run"--red led turns on and blinks a few times on ignition module then off. Push the start button, no red LED on ignition module, smaller black plastic box shows green LED blinking but no red LED. Checked all wiring connections no problem there. Still no spark but I have 12V incoming to the coil. I guess it would have to be the coil or the cam sensor here.

Curtis, I'm about to place an order for some of the stuff I emailed you about. Do you guys stock the sensor I need or should I just look locally? Thanks for the help guys I hope to get this ironed out by the weekend

Turn the key on, push the "Run" button, look at the red LED on the ignition module.
No RED LED on then you likely have a bad cam sensor.

I had the pin in the jst connector of the red wire to the ignition module back out and mine wouldn't start. That happened twice. I would check that jst connector.

Just an update guys it was the cam sensor, ordered from Curtis and had it 2 days later install was easy, even got the timing advanced a little and it helped with cold starts and a little more power. Thanks WSW!

Well here I am again with no spark. Appears that it could be the sensor again but haven't done any tests. Starting to wonder if there's another issue killing the sensor.

Its just the heat and vibration......use a sensor that doesnt have the sensor "gelled" into the plate....less heat shoak from the engine....delete the connector

Will the WSW sensor work in an older bike? Or are they all the same?

The run switch itself could be going bad. This has happened to me.

Check to see if you have voltage to the coil (middle prong) after you hit the run button. This should supply power to the coil. If you have not power after hitting the run button that momentary switch could be bad. If that's the case you can run a wire straight from the battery to the coil just to test to see if it runs that way. Keep in mind the only way to kill the bike is to unplug that wire, so put it on a on/off switch or bullet plug of some sort.

Hah! I'm having the same problem right now but didn't know what to check. Will check this out when I get home tonight or tomorrow morning.
Replaced the starter cause it wouldn't start. It fired right up the first time. Rode it home. Rode it to the lady that's gonna do the custom seats for me and back home. Next time and ever since, NOPE! Just chugs.
Thinking about just saying screw it and replace the coil and cam sensor.

Just an update I narrowed it down to the cam sensor went ahead an upgraded to the twin tech single fire ignition. Got it installed today. Pretty straight forward install. Cranks a runs good now. Gonna go for a ride tomorrow to test and tweak the timing curves

Thunder Heart IM help

Hey Gents. New to BD and have my first test. 2004 Chopper bought from 2nd owner who told me he already upgraded the ECM. Everything was fine til I was riding the other day and she died on me at 70mph. Started popping like mad!

I get no spark! The little red light on the Thunderheart doesn't light at all. Volt meter says I have power going to it. Lights work, blinkers, and the other components seem to act as they should based on all I've read here. I assume it's shot, correct? Any help finding a replacement? Should I change to a different manufacturer?
