Hey guys, I just recently purchases a 2002 Big dog Pitbull with the 107 S&S. I had some Vance and Hines sideshots installed and the bike was running stong. I was taking street bikes off the line like it was my job. I removed the baffles which I knew would hurt my power and it did. I decided to put the baffles back in two days ago and my bike didnt go back to running like it did when I took them out. When I take off it seems like its no time before my bike feels like its about to redline. I do not have a tach but I know how it feels and when I try and start off hard it will backfire when I change gears. I know I have loss power because I had a chevy truck almost out run me off the line last night because I had to change gears so quick because of the way my engine sounds. The only think i did to the bike while the baffles were out was installed some led lights on the engine. This was my first time so i dont know if I might of hit something or blocked something that could be affecting me. Has anyone had this problem or can provide me some assistance!

Welcome

You say the bike is reving fast but you don't have a tach is it possible you're clutch is slipping?

Also might want to got to the the introductions forum and tell us a bit about you, post some pics of your bike and pin the map as well

Again welcome:2thumbs:

agree with V

also if by "backfiring" you mean out of the exhaust, you may want to check your flange bolts are good and snug and your gaskets are ok - could be an exhaust leak

Thanks for all the info. I went home a few min ago and messed with it some and I am going to try and explain what I did but excuse my terminology because I am new to bikes. Behind the breather on the side/top of the carb there is a screw that is gold and it has a spring down the shaft and its very easy to turn. I figured it was possible i could have pushed it right when i was installing my lights so I turned it one turn to the left and it started to run better. Could I be adjusting the air flow? I dont think its the clutch slipping because when the rpms seem high i can still push it further and it will pull just not hard. Its hard to explain but it is running better but what will happen if I turn that valve to much to the left?

If its a S&S carb the screw on the left (facing carb) is for idle speed, the upper left/middle is air fuel mixture the one on the right is the accelerator pump. The air/fuel is typically adjusted at idle.

Sounds like you are making idle circuit air/fuel mixture adjustments. This should only effect air/fuel ratio at idle. If your problem is top end, it is main circuit stuff. If your idle mixture was not correct, you will see changes to idle speed when you adjust the screw. The speed will decrease or increase to a point, depending on where you are with you particular air/fuel mix.

If you are having difficulty dialing your carburetor in, I suggest you visit the S&S website and perform the necessary steps to set your carburetor up to run best for your location.

what they all said on the carb - I still think it sounds like your clutch is slipping. There are varying degrees of slippage so you will still be getting some grab. The longer you ride it whilst its slipping the worse it will get - does it smell?
