no power

Anyone know where the grounding wire on an 08 k9 is? Went out today and it has no power. Battery tested good leds worked fine, figure I would see if anyone knows where its at before I start tearing it apart following wires.

There should be three ground wires on the Negative Battery terminal. One small one for the EHC, one small one for the Horn Relay and a Large one that should be easily traced down to the back side of the Primary Case.

Fuck I hate electrical bull shit. Thanks for heads up. Anything else it could be while I'm diagnosing? I'm worried I rode in the rain the other day. Rode it since then however.

No lights, any lights on the EHC on? ....absolutely nothing?

Well water can do weird things. I got caught in heavy rain and my oil presure light came on. Bike sounded okay so I limped it back to a friends house about a mile away. Hit the left signal button and the oil light went out. So water in the contriols had somehow created a short causing the oil light to come on. Used air to blow it out and no more problems:loony:

Yep absolutely nothing. No lights, no turn, no lights on ehc. Zero. That's what's leading me to think its ground. If ehc is toast I should still be getting power to other things correct?

Not necessarily. To me, that's the biggest downfall of having an EHC vrs WP or something similar. When an EHC fails, it's possible that it can affect the entire electical system. First, make sure you're getting power to the EHC. You should have a positive wire off the battery going to the EHC. If you have power going in but nothing coming out, it's likely that it took a dump on you.

Ah my worst fear! I'm hoping its something simple. Haven't had any issues yet with ehc. I'm hoping it didn't just completely shit out on me. Assuming there is no power into ehc means it would have to be something up the line. Towards the battery right? Like bad battery connection or no ground? Guess I'm saying all power is run through battery to ehc then out to bike?

Moisture could be in the connections of the EHC. there has been a lot of posts on this...remove both main plug on the EHC make sure they are dry..might let them air out for a day...add DIOELECTICAL grease and re-instsall....it a cheap try at least..

and make sure and remove both battery cables...and confirm they are clean....same thing happened to me and on visual inspect cables looked good...removed them and
there was a layer of crap under them preventing a good contact on the positive cable

I'll do that. With the grease do you put it directly on the pins? Seems weird to me.

I wish I had more money.
Apply direct. And use a bunch. Pack that shit in there. It's not conductive but is excellent water displacement properties make it a great choice for this application. Make darn sure it is completely dry first or you're just locking the moisture in there.

Found the culprit. Negative battery terminal is cracked. I pounded it back down adjusted the wires and wala power. Hopefully it will hold now that I moved all the wires to the side. I've never seen a terminal crack like that. Battery is only a year old so I hope to get some service out of it before it breaks all the way off. While I was at it I pulled the ehc, cleaned it up and filled the terminals full off dielectric grease. Easier than I though, other than using the tiny Allen wrench to get the plugs out. Thanks for the help.
