Another thing to check. The wires from the key switch run a short distance then go into a connector. Turn your key on, then grab each end of that connector and gently wiggle them. If your lights flicker you may have a broken pin in that connector. It took me a while to find that problem. I think the vibration finally caused the pin to fatigue. Hope this helps.

I am not against Wire Plus but I would check over all your connections real good before deciding its the EHC's fault.:D
I have to agree with Nuke. Although its the easiest fix but I would go through the bike carefully.

I only did the Wire Plus change over because I burned up (2) EHC's and (3) ignition modules.

shut down

hello , i have this shut down problem , i have a 2004 chopper. i found the wires in my throttel control side were all crushed . fixed that .the bike still shuts down when hot and very hard to start. i have had to jump this bike way to many times ! what is a WIRE PLUS? where do i get one , I need help here ! please days of riding up here in Buffalo are short , also i just read in may , big dog had a recall for for a loose connection between the harness connector and the electonic harness controller . it causes the bikes to stall , it says to call 1-316-219-9121

I just finished the replacement of the EHC with the WirePlus kit. No more power shutdowns.

The best part is starting the bike without the lights on. You'd be surprized how easy the bike starts when the battery is not powering the lights at the same time.

P.S. I did check all my connections before cutting out the EHC and it's plugs. With WirePlus the K-9 is more than just fixed...its a better bike.

I would love to go to the WP+ system, but like a lot of others(I'm sure),I just don't have the bank to do that. What is it?About $600 for the system and another $300-$400 at least to have someone install it.I've had it with the "total power shutdown" last weekend when on my way home at night and lost all power.Oh,and I was in the fast lane of a 3 lane highway.I lost track of how many close calls I had to being roadkill.I'm going over the entire wiring and checking for problems I can see.I hope that helps.WISH ME LUCK!

Michael, I just went though all this and I just decided to bypass my EHC, I have not had any problems since, I have rode it 50 mi or so and no shut downs, the only issue is that now I have a switch under my seat to power the ignition, so if anyone finds out they can push start my bike, I just make sure I put the wheel lock on when I park it now, it was the cheapest alteritive to get me on the road untill I can afford the new PDM, I don't want to use the wire plus, the PDM is a Big Dog upgrade and is easier to install, good luck!
