No fuel, gas cap vent stuck closed

Ran into a little problem Saturday. Replaced a bad (swollen rubber threads) gas cap with a new stock cap. Didn't get a mile down the road and my bike acted like it was starving for fuel and shutdown. Couple minutes later it started up and ran for another mile before doing the same thing.

Raywood was with me and he suggested it might be the new gas cap vent stuck closed. Sure enough, cracked the cap open and could hear vacuum sucking sound of air rushing into the tank. Left it slightly loose until getting home and took the cap apart. Washed the check valve out and was then able to blow air through it in one direction only as it should be. Nothing would go through it in either direction before this.

Moral of the story is that even a new gas cap may be bad right out of the box.

HDLarry screams down the fwy on that beautiful Bulldog of his. Many of you know he works in the oil fields of Prudhoe Bay up in Alaska but lives here in Tacoma, WA. It's a long trek going back and forth!!!! So much so that he has become the new mileage champion for BDM! If you don't believe me just look at his speedometer of which I took a picture of yesterday.

Any of you out that have this kind of mileage on your bike????

Yes folks that does read over 850,000 miles!!!

How much $$$$$ for caps?

Moral of the story is that even a new gas cap may be bad right out of the box.

And might I ask, how much did YOU give for those new gas caps???? I got a quote that was unthinkable for new, stock gas caps.!!!

When I'm not in town riding Raywood takes over and continues putting miles on my bike. It never seems to get any rest.
