Ran into a little problem Saturday. Replaced a bad (swollen rubber threads) gas cap with a new stock cap. Didn't get a mile down the road and my bike acted like it was starving for fuel and shutdown. Couple minutes later it started up and ran for another mile before doing the same thing.
Raywood was with me and he suggested it might be the new gas cap vent stuck closed. Sure enough, cracked the cap open and could hear vacuum sucking sound of air rushing into the tank. Left it slightly loose until getting home and took the cap apart. Washed the check valve out and was then able to blow air through it in one direction only as it should be. Nothing would go through it in either direction before this.
Moral of the story is that even a new gas cap may be bad right out of the box.
