While riding to work 4 gear started acting as if you were pulling in on the clutch, jumping badly,no other gears affected.Adjusted clutch about 2,500 miles ago,15,200 on it now 2007 mastiff.Made it home did small adjustment on clutch cable, rode a few miles 4 gear reacted same way, found that small pull of clutch stopped problem, but when throttling up while clutch was pulled slightly you could feel pressure on clutch lever trying to push its self back out, from the slight pull in.After a few more of the jumping action in 4 gear lost 4-5-6 gear all together made it home in 3 gear 1-2 gears worked also. Now before taking to dealer asking advice from this forum

lately, there have been 2 common problems with the situation you describe. the clutch retaining nut may have backed off, or the mainshaft of the transmission has broken. since your bike is an '07 and possibly still under warranty, i would suggest taking it to the dealer.

My problem started with the clutch nut backing off. Had the clutch nut retorqued and went 3 miles down the road and the transmission stuck in third gear. The countershaft in the transmission had moved. Had noticed while riding, and loosing the clutch, because of the clutch nut loosening that it was sticking in third and not wanting to shift. I thought it was because of the clutch. I still think that the clutch nut coming loose had something to do with my transmission failure. I'm no tech, so I'm probably wrong. Bigdog took care of it even though my warranty had expired. Take it to the dealer and let them fix it. You'll be down about a month.
