New tire installed= question

Had a new rear 300 Cobra installed this weekend. Shop said that it had to "tweak" the setting. I was told that the alignment had to be adjusted so the right side belt pully would not rub on the frame by "tweaking" the alignment. Meaning the tire will sit at a slight angle to clear the pully/frame. Anyone hear of this?........

I watched as he aligned it. He measured each side with a micrometer, made sure both were the same. When they were the same, the belt pully rubbed on the frame. Spacers were correct. Tighting the left side pulled the pully away from the frame. Now Im talking very small. Just want to know if anyone has had the same issue. Thanks

If the tire is not aligned to the 1) frame and 2) the front tire, then you're going to have wear and tracking problems. May not be noticeable for a while.

Sadly, putting a POS Avon tire on it may be the real problem

Try looking at your sprocket on the trans.
I had the same problem after I put my new
tire it rubbed on the belt guard. Turned out
the sprocket had came loose and would push
the belt over on the guard.

I've got an '05 Pit and have never had the belt rub the frame. The new Metzler 300 comes very close to where the belt almost rubs the tire, but definitely not the frame. There are 2 spacers on the drive side that are slightly different widths. Are you sure those were put back in the right order? If not, you should notice that your brake calipers don't line up excactly right either.

Look, if the mech does not know how to align a rear tire on your bike you need to find out where the factory datum point is at and follow factory procedure.

My 07 Bulldog uses the swingarm pivot as a measuring point, not the rear axle mounts.

Look at it this way........would you take a Victory bagger to a Harley dealer for repair? Probably not seeing they are still in buisiness. But if Victory was gone would you still rely on a Harley dealer to have the required knowledge to repair your Victory?

Grab a wrench, get informed and get involved!

You will appreciate the rewards far longer when you are involved.

Mine was set up off like that when I got it because of belt squeal!! When I set it proper the belt rode all the way to the outside of the front pulley/sprocket. I had to realign the motor/trans then I was able to set the tire alignment correctly.

Did he remove the hub's when changing the tire if so might not have got them seated all the way back in the wheel. When i changed my tire i aligned it the same way as you described and have about a 1/4 inch between pully and frame. The belt is close to the tire as always

The GOOD thing about a cog belt (as opposed to a chain) is that it doesn't need to be very tight to work. A belt is very forgiving in regards to tension.

The BAD thing about a belt is that it has to be aligned absolutely straight to not wear on the sides, and or squeal.

If your pulley didn't hit the frame before and your belt wasn't worn on the sides, then your tire changer did something wrong.
