New speedo installed must have new battery?

When I was in the dealer to have my speedo replaced they told me of what BDM said about the batteries used is that if it shy of CCA you could have intermitent bootups with speedo(like everyone seems to have) We'll I tested it, so I installed a 270CCA I.S. battery a #20L and within 3 tries at trying to start bike the speedo stop working. (this battery was less than a year old but always tended to) so I picked up a I.S. battery a #20HL which is 310CCA and same demensions as old one and since this was installed it has not failed as of yet. I wondering if anyone has heard of this. maybe it is true???

I ordered the same battery for my bike too! The 310 CCA Interstate...Jake from Low Down told me about this battery...I have heard about the voltage drop from the lower CCA batteries from Ohmster..on this forum. I won't have my bike back from my dealer for another few more weeks...so I won't be able to try it out until the shitty weather breaks in Michigan!

Dog1, if you don't mind what brand and item# of the 310cca battery did you get. And you say it's the same size as the original?

Well boys... I got more news for you. If you have a newer USB style EHC there is a new service bullitin coming out to help this. Its a software upgrade to the EHC so that everytime you push the run it reboots the power to the speedo. This will fix this problem. Ask your dealer, it should be out as a service bullitin if you're having this problem.

Battery CCA are important but the cables and connections are just as important.

Keep them clean, periodicly look for signs of corrosion at the battery cable connections.

If your having slow or difficult starts does the battery cable feel warmer at one end compared to the other? It may be a sign of a poor connection or undersized cable.

Some of the big inch V-twin riders are using these cables and they can be ordered to your needs. Very flexable cable designed for high current (welding). Cold Riders Yooper Page.

Sometimes the Interstate battery install will require longer metric bolts when using the supplied spacers for side mounting the terminal rings. REASON- large number of terminals cause a thicker stack for the supplied bolts from Interstate to secure correctly.
