OH FUCK!!!

Hows the bar?
How bad is the fender scratches?

Is that bar that heavy? I have never heard of that.

Did the bolts back out or snap?

Gas, didn't get the bar back, might take a ride out it the car to see if I can find it today. It was just starting to get dark and there were 6 lanes of traffic all cruising up the pass at 75-80. Not a good place to stop.

Not sure about the bolts, bar seemed fine at the last gas stop, hung my helmet from it. Didn't notice anything unusual. Guys behind me did notice anything until they saw it bounce of the road. I didn't even know it was gone until they rode up beside my and gave some hand signals. Then when we did stop wasn't sure if I should punch something or cry...
Going to see if I can find it now

That is crazy!!

There is no way I wouldn't have stopped... that's some cash laying on the side of the road.

Good luck!

Didn't find the bar yesterday, worst part now is I don't know what really happened. Did the bolt back out even though I had used blue loctite on them. Or did they shear off due to the weight off the bar and vibration of the bike.
Oh well...as "they" say shit happens!!!

Trust me when I say that its no place to be stoppin...a few hundred bucks isn't worth it. Even when I went up the next morning to look for it in the car at 10:00am traffic was crazy. I was in the fast lane with my hazard lights flashing going 50-55 and there were many horns blownin' and lots a fingers wavin'.
Still not sure I'd been able to stop the car on the shoulder if I had seen it, pretty narrow with a big metal barrier, then a couple hundred feet drop.
I spoke with Eric already, will get another built in a month or two. Going to use better bolts, thicker round stock on the bottom going into the struts, and red loctitie the shit out of it...
First, gotta let the little women cool down about all the money going into the bike. That might take a year or two though! Oh well, if it isn't the bike it would be something else.

What did you use for bolts because I used the best hardened machine bolt I could find. I wasn't about to take a chance on using some soft stainless bolts or some cheap chrome plated jobbies from the bike shop.

I got grade 8 or maybe the next step up from Fastenal.

I bet ya they broke, kinda common a couple years ago on the sissybar bolts.

I just checked out your thread after you pm'd me. Man that sucks! That was a sick sissy-bar. Hope it didn't mess up your fender. You're lucky it didn't kill one of your buddies riding behind you! Could have been worse.

Yep, I think the bolts were the problem after all. Had the thought to go get grade 8 bolts, but didn't follow up. Just used the stainless ones I had in the garage.

Airbrush-ed, thanks for the PM. I'll send you some pic's of the rear fender tomorrow.
