new rear fender

So I am getting an extra/new raw rear fender and at first I was thinkin about cutting a upsidedown v upto where the ppad ends to show more of that 300. But after talking to Gas I realized I could also lengthen it and maybe french in the plate a look that I also like. Whats your 2c

just my .2c but I have always liked the cut fenders that showed off the tire more. Maybe something like a "V" or concave circle going up to the back of the p-pad. just remember that it's going to throw road grime and water up on you.

My Friend did his fenders and they turned out nice. he actually welded some on the end of the rear fender to get it down a little further.

Question, If anyone cut it themself, how did you do it? Also, did you have to reinforce it on the bottom after cutting?

The one my buddy did on his own, and he used poster board to lay it out and then plasma cut it but he welded a piece on the end first so he could get a longer point. He did not reinforce it, you can feel the weld line under it if you feel, but it is completely not noticeable of course from the painted side. (above pic)

I like the idea of frenching in the plate but then you would have to cut the tab and the wire tube off the swingarm to make it look nice. And of course that would involve stripping and re powderder coating the swingarm.

Excuse my ignorance Al, but what do you mean by "frenching in the plate"?

That is when you create a recess in the lower portion of the fender so that the license plate will mount inside a pocket and be somewhat flush with the fender contour. I will also have a light built in as well.

Reaper's is sick, I've always loved that fender. I have always told myself that if I ever pickup something and it dings the rear fender I'd have it shaped...

Mine is the factory fender that came with the bike, but my dealership who also own a fab shop cut it out for me.

Alhall... we discussed this and it could be done easily over winter... strip and powder of the swingarm wouldn't be that much money.

I do like Reapers the best... however, consider that doing so on a swingarm bike will expose the fender gap like the choppers do (which I hate). The opposite is like he and K9's have.

My personal opinion is that when guys scallop the rear fender on a soft tail... it looks like shit due to the swing arm clearance. I think that is something to be done on rigids only. A friend of mine put a roller fender on the back of his chopper. he used a strutless fender and mounted it to his swingarm and then frenched in his plate. He also has an old school bobber seat without the springs(he has 2 chrome posts instead), totally changed the look of the bike.
