New Pipes on the way

Energy One

Hey guys, I just ordered me a set of Martin Bros. Daisy cutter pipes for my Ridgeback:whoop: , and I have a couple of questions for the experts:confused: . First, can I use the flanges off my stock Kerker, or do I need to buy new ones? Second, what type of exhaust gaskets should I use for this application. Third and final question, should I go ahead and install a set of torque cones, or just let the daisy cutters be:loony: ? I just want to get all my ducks in a row before the pipes arrive, so I can get them on A.S.A.P! I will post some new pics as soon as they are mounted up!:flag:

Yes, pull the flanges off your old pipes and put on the new ones.

Most agree torque cones are for small motors (all hearsay with no experience).

Be aware you may have to alter the mounts some. I've had two pair of Martin Bros and in both cases the mounts didn't fit properly without some modification.

Nice pipes too!!

Thanks Ray, so I shouldn't worry about the torque cones? Should I go to Big Dog or the local Harley dealer for the gaskets?

I am running a set of Medustas on my chopper, i agree with Raywood 100% you will probably have to modify your bracket, i did. As far as the torque cones go, i actually contacted Martin Bros to ask their opinion and was told that they are not needed because of their stepped design. I had used cones previously and honestly, they didn't make a damn bit of difference.

it's been my experience that the dealerships offer 2 types of gaskets. they make smaller ones that they claim are for performance. My opinion is that they are a real bitch to line up. My advice would be to use the stock mesh type squish gaskets and save yourself the frustration. You can get them from You BDM dealer or HD dealer i think they're like $8 or so.

I liked them pipes, I went with the V&H 2 into 1 however. Let us know how you like them, and pics...:2thumbs:

with mine i just had to make it longer to accomidate for the offset. However, I think martin bros do a lot more with their pipes now (like baffles, heatshields) than they did when i bought mine. If i'm not mistaken i believe they sell bracket spacer kits, to accomidate the wide tire bikes, on their website. Check with the dealer you bought them from.

What made you decide on the two into one Chaingunner? Personally I want loud and obnoxious! Hopefully I made the right choice for this.

It would probably be easier to do that Hooligan, but I bought these off Ebay not from the dealer. They were sold with out the mounting bracket though, so I called Martin Bros. and gave them the info. on the bike, and they are sending me out a mounting bracket. Who knows, maybe I'll get lucky and it will fit. I won't count on it though.

Keep your fingers crossed you might get lucky. I was looking for loud and obnoxious too and believe me i found it when i got the martin bros. They are not too bad when i'm taking it easy but when i give 'er hell, i'm setting off car alarms. they are LAF

Finger are crossed, hoping for that sound that makes people get the f@@k out of my way! Did you have to change your jets out for these, and what set up did you go with?

when I ordered my medustas I told them I had a 300 tire and they was suppose to send me the bracket spacer, when they got here no spacer so I called them back and they sent it 2 day air.

Well let's keep plugging Martin Bros.

I emailed them on a Friday afternoon about a mount bracket for their Over Under Slash Cut pipes. Got a reply that evening asking me to forward my address and they would ship the bracket out on Tuesday.

I replied with address asking how much. No reply.

At the door step when I got home Friday night. No charge.

Can't ask for beter service than that.

I put the cones in and immediately noticed a loss of both HP and Tq.

I am running short 2 into 1 Wicked Bros similar to these - no baffles or washer - 1 3/4" stepped to 2"

You'll get the sound. I installed Daisy Cutters on my Mastiff and it scares the shit out of other bikers around me.

The term I've heard a few times is "Intimidating" The only thing I don't like about the pipes is the low quality plating. Very poor.

Yes i did have to rejet the carb. I honestly can't remember what jet combo I'm using without looking through my paperwork. I do remember that it was only up a size or two from the stock jets. I do believe that i read a how to on this sight with some tips for re-jetting your carb. Or you can go to the S&S website and there is a diagram for your carb and it gives you recommended range of jets for different CID motors. If youre running stock pipes now youll probably have to go up in size. There are so many factors that go into jetting your carb like elevation, humidity etc. find the recommended range you need to be in and what is actually in your bike and use the how to's on this sight and you shouldn't have a problem.

Well, just wanted to do a quick update for everyone who helped me out on this one. Basically the guy who sold me these pipes screwed me ova! He sold the pipes as left hand drive, but they turned out to be right hand drive! Lucky for me, that I work with some kick-ass aircraft mechanics, and we fabricated some pretty cool looking brackets to make these work out. An experienced eye will notice the modification, but if you don't know me, you have no reason to be that close to my bike anyway!!! So once again thanks for all the input, hopefully I can meet up with some of you guys for the Lone Star Rally.
