First things first you guys are a stand up bunch of dudes!

Sorry to be the new pest, but as I've said I've had some growing pains with my new dog. Can you all give me a heads up on the most likely stuff to check out ie: misc nuts and bolts to go over. My new little buddy has been chained to a post and left out in the rain so to speak. It just rolled over 12,000 miles but it has been lacking in the tlc department. I plan on giving it all the love and attention it deserves. It's a nice bike and I'm not complaining I love it to say the least. Just could use a heads up on what to look out for, a bit of maintenance. I've had some weird $hit go on since I've bought it. I take really good care of all my toys and am very picky so I would like some help on the most common stuff I need to give attention to. PAY ATTENTION TO THIS!!! For all my new pals that have welcomed me and giving their time to me, if you make it to BBQ this year I will be the first in line to buy beers!!! Your help this far has been overwhelming you dogs !! Are some stand up guys!!

at 12k, one of the first things i think i would do is to rebuild the forks. it is recommended at 10k but mine were right at gone at 8.5k. there are good tutorials in the how-to section done by one of the OG's, "GasMan". that would be a good place to start.

IF LIFE SUCKS, GO RIDE
Hey Big D... welcome to the pound... i would change wheel bearings as mine were dry when i got my beatin up dog, Rebuilt the forks, checked the clutch and main shaft nuts as one was loose, adjusted the push rods. heat shrinked the wiring harness. Just basically went from front to back to make her great again. She had broken exhaust brakets, missing exhaust nuts, even missing the motor mount bolt under the gas tank so put a finger on very nut and bolt you can to make sure she is sound. hope this helps.....

Trigger is an 06 dog! All good suggestions front forks seem to be working tip top... Will double check mtr mt bolts. Main shaft bolt in Trans already came loose and fixed. Clutch readjusted. Shock bushings underneath were not loose but did have some side to side play. Is that normal?

By the by where is the best place to get new primary gasket. Not so much concerned about cost as I am in getting a replacement quickly. So a brother can go riding!!! I'm down and out currently... Life six til I can ride again.!

Careful with any bolts that require loctite if you move them you broke the lock and should remove, clean, primer and re loctite and torque.

Some will argue that is not necessary but it's what I do because that is what Loctite recommends. Just my .02

Man you guys are gonna laugh your a$$ of at this. You know when you get likes at the bottom of your post....? Being the new dumba$$ I am.

I thought pknowles was calling me a peckerwood and a chub.... I was starting to get mad when I figured out "what chubs like this" means I had to laugh at myself.

But seriously if you read it it looks like some one is calling me names. :)

Don't forget a fresh clean and di-grease for you EHC. How is your battery? I think your doing the best thing by going over the entire bike. Get you some red/blue loctite. He's your friend.

Anything you need for your Dog, you can get from the Kaptin.

Just send him a e-mail, it's the fastest way to get in touch with him.
While your checking bolts, and each time your cleaning on it, always check your battery bolts.
Yes side to side movement on the shocks is normal.
I'm only about 4 hours from you, if you run into something that's over your head, but I sure we can talk you through just about anything your doing.

Can you splain that one for me? The di-grease for the EHC. I'm assuming your talking about dielectric grease my question is where to clean it and where to put new grease...

a little piece of knowledge to store in the back of your mind..... if the charging system is working properly, it takes a continuous 20 miles to charge up the draw on the battery after you crank the bike. so, make sure you have a good battery and a full charge if you are going bar hopping.
