Painting a bike for a guy who is building a custom softail for his wife. She wanted an HD orange/black style paint, to include painting the frame orange. Here is a pic of the color panel I did, showing the colors that will be on the bike.

Here's a few pics of the frame with paint and clear

Here is a bike (I call it the HD SOA) that I painted recently. It came to me as a faded purple/plum color, with chips, dings and dents, not to mention all the scratches, dirt, grime and wear all over the tins and fairing. I did a quick back to black basic and because of the style (a Dyna with a sport fairing), I added the SOA reaper, but rather than an anarchy sign in the crystal ball, I added the HD bar and shield. I dusted it on with a prismatic pearl suspended in clear. Depending on the light source the graphic blended into the black so it was almost not there. Sometimes it would look gray, sometimes a bronze color, at other angles it took on a blue to green look. Here's some pics

Here's a 1995 HD Dyna Wide Glide that I painted earlier this spring. The owner brought it to me to detail and touch up a few spots. He wanted to sell it, but he had a number of scratches, dings and some damage on the right side of the tank in the area of the graphic. I had to redo the entire right side, blend it into the left side and re-clear the entire tank. After I got it detailed he mentioned he wanted to sell it and hoped to get 5K for the bike. It has 26K miles on it and a few oil leaking issues. Other than that it seems to be in great shape. NADA puts it between 4K and 5K. I made one phone call to a guy that was interested in buying his first Harley, didn't want to pay much, and so in about a half hour I had the bike sold for $5300. The owner got his 5K and I got a $300 commission for a quick sale. Can't beat that!

Finally Finished

Well finally had the time and opportunity to finish the orange softail. Here's how it turned out. Used HOK black along with Galaxy Gray (for the pinstriping), Orion Silver (for the graphics) with a dusting of Alsa Prismatic Pearls.

Here's a pic of the finished pieces

This is a close up showing the silver metallic with prismatic pearl

The customer asked if I would add rivets and make the silver look like metal plates, so here is a closeup of that

He wanted kind of a tribal look to the HD so I did a couple of freehand designs based on a sticker he liked. When he picked one, I simply made a copy, cut out the design and used it as a stencil for sharp lines.
