Hi folks, recently bought a 2006 k9 very clean very nice...bought it with a burnt out starter & a rats nest of home made wiring...you can pop start the bike which I have done the last few evenings just to ride it an get a feel for her before it goes down for the foreseeable future..

Previous owner cut the ehc out of the bike an has maybe 7-15 different wires running here an there to make the bike run, which it does very well I put maybe 140 miles on it between the last few evenings. Now I must determine where to go from here. I'll attach pictures of the mess under the seat, fairly certain it beats anything you've ever seen. Taking opinions on routes to go...I'm not an electrician an my patience runs slim but but I'm typically financially motivated to do my own work. Lol

interested in hearing of a simpler control box I could add, switching over to harley controls an buying bars w/ a harness for that, or any other options.

planning on calling namz tomorrow thier only about 2 hours away an getting a rough estimate on having them get the bike squared away. But please share your thoughts & thanks!!

Welcome from Tennessee....holy shit what a mess under the seat...but it runs and runs good sounds like.

Honestly i would get that stuff out of there and put in the factory backbone harness for 200.00...axels ehc 600.00.. reason i say this is because swamping out to all harley stuff is going to be way more expensive...several have went to harley style on these bikes but honestly if fixed correctly back to original style the bike will be fine...

Welcome from Southern-Gulf Mississippi! People are already chiming in on fixes and looks like either way you got a project on your hands. Having now had several custom bikes, a BDM and an AIH, the stock wiring work but needs some understanding...seems a lot of people just start cutting and splicing as soon as there is a problem, opening up pandoras box. My recommendation would be to put it back to stock wiring (or as close as you can). Anyway, welcome and you've come to the right place to get questions answered about these awesome bikes.

That sounds the most reasonable, now the back bone wiring harness I assume there's plugs either in the handle bars or somewhere under the gas tank that I can just plug into with a new back bone??? Also I'm unfamiliar with hdm what's thier full name?

Big Dog Motorcycle (BDM), American Iron Horse (AIH).
The new main harness running under the tank will have JST connections to the handlebars, compression release and etc.
As noted wild steed works has a lot of the stuff you will need and is a great guy to work with.

There are wiring diagrams on here so you can see where stuff goes and plugs into. Biggest thing is understanding that the controls are switched ground not switched power...there are some other discussions on the forum to help you with the electrical too.

Yes the backbone harness connections are all under the gas tank with a few connections in the battery box area
