Ok this is the problem...I just bought a used 04 Ridgeback with 4300mi. I am not sure when the owner last did an oil change or any other fluids. I have no owners/service manual for it.. I do not know if he ever used Syn Oil or Reg. Also I have no clue on the amounts for the motor/trans/and primary. It has the 117 s&s and the Baker 6speed. If anyone can please help me out it would be greatly appreciated....

3 Qts engine oil ... Mobile 1 Vtwin Synthetic, Amzoil Synthetic or what ever brand you favor so long as its for a motorcycle and NOT a chainsaw! As for your primary 32 oz or 2 Qts for us beer drinkers -- and be sure NOT to use synthetic shit in the primary shits too dam slippery. There are many good brands of primary fluid, rev tech, amzoil, redine ..etc. Lastly your tranny this takes 16 oz or 1 qt and Synthetic is recommended here - I use Redline Heavy Duty with Shockproof which makes shifting easier and reduces gear noise in my humble opinion.

If you new .. be sure to introduce your self and post pics of your ride before the posse gets on your case. I am sure like myself there will be many opinions for you to choose from.

Good luck, Welcome and enjoy the dog!! :2thumbs: lots of good no make that great info for us dog lovers.

Josh,

You should be able to get a copy of the owners manual at the BigDog web site which will answer some of your questions. Service manual may be a worth while investment after that.

My 04 bulldog, 6 speed RSD says 20 oz for the tranny, not 16. You need to double check for sure.

Slowrider,

NOt sure how you got 32oz or for that matter made a pint into a quart, but regardless, pretty sure the 6sp Baker only takes 20oz as pre the O&M and even on the Baker site, they only recommend 23 with the new recommended Spectro (?). If you are putting in 32 oz, you may want to verify with the O&M or SM or dealer. Hopefully that ghost of Thing will confirm also.

Josh do recommend that you stay away from the synthetic in the primary. Mobile 1 and other high quality V-Twin Specific Synthetic are okay for engine after break in. On the Tranny many use Redline Heavy or V-Twin Shock Proof (personnaly still holding out on that one) but the regular RevTech or Redline Transmission fluid work good also (the non shockproof).

Key IMHO is to do regular oil and filter changes regardless if it just good ole dino or a synthetic. Maintenance is key to keeping these Dogs happy and living a long life. Fluid changes are cheap and should be able to change all fluids for $50-$60 at most if you turn your own wrench.

If not would get a service manual, some good tools and start learning the ins and outs and do not be afraid to ask you dealre questions.

Welcome and have fun but be safe.
