Good Morning all....30 days ago I picked up the '07 K-9...prior to delivery I noticed the slight oil leak at base of cam cover, dealer said he would replace gasket...kool...well, about 3 weeks later got it to cornerstone authorized repair shop to go over the entire bike, just to be sure all was well...Guess what it was not...this S&S 117 was tearing it's self apart, starting at the cam and cam bearing...metal in oil filter, and in the crank case oil drained...2900 miles ???and the mechanic said this is the third '07 S&S 117 he has seen do this...My Options???$3000.-$4000. to rebuild and warranty only on parts...$5000. 110/115 RevTech (Do I go there?)or a new S&S 113 or whatever$7000. - $10,000....Hell, I should have bought a new BD...Any input from y'all would be a big help ...Thanks in advance...

The 113 S&s is a strong engine true evo style top and bottom, heads breath thru the aircleaner mounting bolts. would be a bolt in as well as the Revtech, however I believe the Revtech may be foreign made. Still a good engine and they make the 110, 115, and now a 125.

If I was going to have to totally replace my engine I would go ahead with the S&S 124 little bit more money but you would have the power out of the box and it comes with a one or two year warranty depending on what you buy.

I would also make sure you do not get the low compression EPA model for any as hten you would just want to build it up again (I know I would)

Just my thoughts! V

if you bought it 30 days ago from a dealer I would take it back and get my money back

I made the call this morning...they buy the new motor or give me my money back...waiting there reply...The RevTech motor (Custom Chrome) is a foreign parts motor...and assembled in the US...however, if I'm not mistaken most part...ie; S&S motors are Asian Parts as well...I have heard so many pros and cons about the RevTech...getting parts , The warranty runs from 3 years/30,000 miles or 2 years/ 20,000 miles...but are they going to stay in business and I think it would reduce the resale value on the BD as well..S&S on the other hand...I have only seen 6 month warranty it's interesting that the inferior manufacture (RevTech) they have a longer warranty than S&S a manufacture ppl feel is Superior is only 6 months...Hmmmm

Did you cut open the oil filter(not for a BD in this picture) yourself like I did? Did you save the old correct oil filter that you cut open? There are a lot of things that could happen when you have a claim like yours (who did what and when) from a dealer. How does the mechanic know that your problem started in the area of the oil leak? Does your dealer have records of any engine mods see where Im going? Just make sure you get what you paid for an SS not a rev tech engine or a bandade engine

Don't get a Rev Tech I had one made good power but will not last. Had a 113 in my Swift and it screamed and was trouble free. And why put a asian motor in a American bike.

Revtech did the warranty extension after there 1st & 2nd generation motor problems cost them so much so to generate sales of there latest version of the motor they come out with these long warranties.
They are owned by Custom Chrome and warranty is handled through any of these dealers but if you search I think you will still find lots of problems getting things fixed.
I have no experience with Revtech but after hearing 1000's of 1000's of horror stories on many websites I personally would never own one.

Would not do the rev tec I'd eather get my money back are go with another s&s be it a 117 or 124. Its their money but its your time. But you are getting a 07 K-9 with a brand new motor for what you got it for.

Nothing wrong with the lastest generation Rev Tech engines. Warranty is better than you'll find on anything else, and it'll last just as long. Case & point, an '07 S&S with 2,900 miles SHOT. You may want to check out Ultima motors also, definately less expensive than a new S&S too.

I have the S&S 124 in mine, warranty was/is only 6 months. Break it in right and you should be fine, then again..........anything can happen.

Ya know, Each of you guy's have very valid points...Thank you I appreciate them very much...and with a great deal of thought have made up my rather sober mind...(A few brews could have helped as well, I might add!)...However, I am working so that must wait till Tuesday...at any rate...
As for the S&S 124...wow, sweet, however, I should have bought a new BD considering the amount of money I would have then invested and with only a 6 month warranty...
As for the RevTech only about $5000. and what seems to be a great warranty, however, I think it would hurt the resale value, not to mention all of the above cons found in the above threads...
I think I need to keep that S&S 117 on that BD and have the dam thing fixed...New Cam, different cam cover for better oiling and spacing and this problem may never occur again...along with new bearings, 4 tappets, spacers, etc...and we believe every thing else is fine...however, all will be inspected...about $1500- max $2000.
I do think this is the best choice given the facts given...LOL...I HOPE!!!!
Thanks again, and feel free to continue sharing your thought's, once again I do appreciate it...

If you have the tools and a little mechanical ability you can rebuild that motor yourself. They are pretty easy to do. I have a "How To" thread on rebuilding the topend and many here have changed the cams themselves. So you could same $1000 doing yourself if you can.

Well good luck with the repair or swap. I am still confused though why you would have to pay anything if it was screwed up when you bought it. Maybe missed something but it did sound like you have had it less than 30 days and there was a problem when you got it concerning leaking oil.

Did you put many or any miles on it between originalo pickup and the full inspections that found the issues?

Good luck nonetheless and sorry to hear of the situation.

[COLOR="Teal"Well, YES, IT HAS BEEN 28 DAYS AND I HAD FOUND A SLIGHT LEAK AT THE BASE OF THE CAM COVER, AND THEY CHANGE THE GASKET...Please excuse the caps just tired...and I run the BG about 150 miles...including to the service center.
This was a small dealership and they haven't returned my call yet..I gave them a call early this morning before leaving Flint, MI...so, it must be fixed and I do like the bike...I will pay for the repairs and chase them down for the extra costs above the other things I'm having down...
Thanks for the good wishes,
Dalton [/COLOR]

Well good luck Dalton and it is good to see that you do like the bike. I am sure that once it is all resolved that you will get many pleasurable miles and smiles out of it.
