New K&N Filter --- Now Backfiring on decel?

03 Chopper with 2 n 1 stock pipes. Recently got it, did some routine maintenance and put a new Air Filter K&N 3260 - now I'm getting some popping on decel. Was out riding and backed out the idle mixture screw by hand and decel started to go away but my throttle response and idle at stop were crap. Got home, did the standard "tuning carb" S&S pdf and it seems to get mixture screw out far enough to stop the popping I need to screw in the idle speed screw too far where it seems the bike is idling too high.

I checked for an air leak (used WD40) and was good. I had pulled the plugs a few days ago both were very light in color, almost a bit lean but the bike was running hard so didn't change'em out. I did notice the rear cable boot "clicks" but pulls off fairly easy.

Is this common from changing filters? Shitty part is I tossed the old filter. Wish I had to see if the popping would go away with that one on. Also no clue what jets are on the bike, guessing stock as well.

Kap, thanks.

I haven't checked the carb, but reading the manual it says it comes with 29.5 --- I figured I'd need to bump that up?

As per the other Thread... :D

I have a stock 03 Chop. Recently changed the S&S air filter to a K&N and had some decel popping, and loss of throttle response. Bike had stock jets 29.5 and 70 and ran great with S&S filter, plugs were a tad light, but bike ran great.

So I bumped them both up to 31 and 72. Immediately the decel popping was gone and throttle response was back. However, seat of my pants, I don't think there is any difference with the K&N....in fact I think it ran a tad harder/faster with the other filter and jets. Perhaps I just need to get the carb just right. Bike does run really good right now, just not sure if it's any better than before? I'll probably just leave it as is...and send the carb to XXX soon! :)

update: Installed 31/72 from a 29.5/70 and still having some slight decel popping. If I turn out mixture screw past 2 turns most of the popping goes away. Going to bump up to 32, should I also bump up the main jet? Most threads I read of guys running a 32 intermediate were running a higher main jet.

03 Chop, 107, G Carb, 2n1 Stock pipes, only change is the KN air filter.
