up to 120 miles so far! it made it to 60 and sunny today in jersey! anyway, the light went off yesterday and went back on tonight when i took my girlfriend for a ride. also, there is a horrible metal on metal tapping\vibration i hear over the exhaust. it's coming from the left side. i felt around and can't feel anything loose or see anything. I'm not a mechanic but it sounds like it's coming from the top of the motor. also the dealership is over 100 miles away so kinda just waiting for the first service to check it out. should i be very concerned or any ideas? you guys are great and thanks for your help!!! ps. haven't done the reflectors yet. gotta go get inspected this weekend:bang:

Probably your front pulley coming loose. Don't start the bike. You are about to take out your charging system.

The light shouldn't come on for any reason and your are probably hearing your valve train. If you are not used to a big twin it can be pretty alarming at first. Best advice is to head to the dealer.

just got off the phone the phone with the dealer and he said to go take it for a short ride and try to listen if the noise is getting worse with the motor and email him back. He cant even pick it up until next week!! I'm just nervous. getting frustrated with this new purchase and it's only been two weeks. It's true, i might not just be used to this motor and could be hearing stuff. i remember the first time i took my full face helmet off and rode my sport bike i thought it sounded like crap. regardless, this engine light keeps coming on!! grrrr

stethoscope it while its running should be able to hear it.If it were mine and still under warranty back to the dealer. Short high tech wood broom stick up to your ear works too.

No such thing rutro. You need to make sure that you protect you investment without possibly damaging the goods anymore than what it is. Keep in mind that no question is a dumb question.

Hope things work out for you and the bike.

I guess you need to see why the engine light is coming on. Could be the O2 sensors setting the alarm. If it is going on and off that is a possibility.
Do you have a laptop? If so you can load the S&S software Pro Tune II from the S&S web site and hook up to your bike and see what the alarm is. Done it plenty. That will tell you what the deal is. Everyone will be equipping themselves with the software soon enough when the EFI takes over if people allow the bike companies to do this.
Go here and download the software and manual:
ProTune II Software Download
It is free. Hook up to your bike and see what the alarm code is. Just need a 9 pin serial cable and perhaps a USB to serial adapter depending on your laptop ports available. The serial cable only needs three wires. pin 2 and 3 and 5. Pins 2 and 3 being transmit and receive. They will cross between connectors. 2 goes to 3 and 3 goes to 2. Pin 5 is a straight through to pin 5. . Nothing special. The manual is there too. You can reset it if needed. Call your dealer and tell them what is up. No need to loose riding time or to wait weeks for someone else to hook up and tell you the same thing.
If I can help you or answer any questions just ask.
I have a 07 FI Bulldog and they did not make them in 08 for some reason. Flagship bike one year and gone the next???
Resolve the engine light... The motor noise can be alarming if it is your first big twin....They do make noise. Let me know how it goes.

This will give you a idea of what you will see.

Not that I am aware of. If Big Dog has any issues with this I am sure they can pop in and give there side of this. But this is the deal here as I see it.

You are hooking up to the S&S EFI module with S&S Pro Tune II software and you can only monitor the gauge readings and see the alarms. You cannot upload or download and fuel map. You can't do squat but see what is setting the alarm and your live sensor readings. Sounds like looking at the instrument cluster on the dash of your car. The BDM fuel map is proprietary and only they can change it at the moment.

This is a valuable tool to have especially if you are locate a ways from a authorized Big Dog Dealer. Why waste their time to check the alarm and the time to transport the bike if you are afraid to ride it. See what the alarm is and call them to see what you should do.
At 120 miles and a check engine light on, I would want to push a button and the bike to tell me what the code is so I could look it up at least in a manual or online.

I was able to work with Big Dog over the phone telling them what was showing and ultimately they sent a truck to take it back to the factory to make the needed repairs.
Thanks Big Dog. That was awesome of you....

It would be awesome if Big Dog would create the software on their HOME SITE where you could hook up and they pull up the data and give you instant real time data on what was happening and any pertinent information you may need to know. They could then monitor the ECU number and health of their fuel injected bikes. This would greatly reduce a lot of dealer overhead for just pulling up engine codes and ect.... This would enable them to build a great data base on what is going on with the awesome machines they are building.
It would give us FI owners some needed feedback on how these bikes are doing and perhaps put up some great tutorials on the FI systems to win over the population as they phase out the carb systems.

Just a thought,

Is there any special BOX FILES for the ECU configuration needed as well- if so which one?. Because I don't have my new bike yet "07 Bulldog" - can anyone tell me what the connector is and the gender on the ECH to PC connection? I assume it's a 9pin Dsub, male pin. Wired as a null modem cable, reversing Txd-Rxd. Thanks!

You are correct on the pin out for the 9 pin.
Big dog has their own box files extension...
