New ignition...No more kill switch

So I had to have my ignition replaced (a couple of times). The last time they replaced it with a different brand. (Can't think of it off hand) As a result, the kill switch (next to the starter button) doesn't work anymore.
I would think that all I would need to do is run the positive line from the key switch up to the kill switch and back... No?

Is it possible? Is it worth it?

Kind of a pain in the ass to have to reach across the body to turn the bike off when it's in gear. Know what I mean?

Thx

I'm not sure on the wiring on a 01 model, but I can't figure out how the hand controls have anything to do with the ignition unless they are not ran through some type of ehc. I run a crane ignition on mine and still have a kill switch. Sounds like one of the trigger wires didn't get hooked up if its a direct wire system.
