New Gas cap

 Here are some pics of the new gas cap the dealer gave me. After taking off the white Nut piece, It still does not look the same as the pics Gas posted as to what it should look like. Am I missing something or is that all I need to do? It is the rachet style cap. The black cylinder part that threads into the tank rachets when tightened down, is it suppose to do that ? Thanks

It look like mine, however mine does not ratchet down. Maybe a new thing or something wrong. It also helps to coat the plastic threads with a light coating of grease occasionally to make it easier to remove, for after a while they can tend to swell a little and bind, the grease helps.

YES!!! The new caps DO ratchet. They are supposed to have a NEW paint saver as well, smaller in diameter - one that does not actually touch the tank. The gas cap fits just over the paint saver. The ratchet effect ensures no over tightening of the cap and in turn prevents the cap from touching the paint. (With the gas cap on there is a small hair-line space/gap between the cap and tank)

thanks guys,
Staffy you are correct there is a hairline gap between the cap and the tank, so Am I correct in that you guys are all saying to leave the white piece off?
Snake, thanks for the grease tip.

Semi,

I would leave the white insert off for it is for some CA or EPA crap. If has been known to create a venting issues at times including for me. What would happen is that it would not allow sufficient venting and create insufficient flow as the fuel drop and I would get a stall occasionally, normally after filling up pretty good and after a 30-40 miles.

Yea... been there, done that... mine stalled twice on IH35 between San Antonio & Austin going 75 mph... in the middle lane...

Fun trying to swerve over while dodging cars ....

Removing the plug fixed that problem.

I have the new clicker cap as well. I removed the white plug on the bottom and rode 150 miles without problems. I like the new cap better because you can't overtighten it and get it stuck on the tank.

Got my new gas cap from Wicked Bastard Cycles last night. Immediately removed the white plug. Rachet style is much better.
Also received a "bonus" battery tester with the cap ! Thanks Nelson !!!!
