New Dog Ready

I was by the local BD dealer today and my new (used) BD is ready. Trading in my 02 Pitbull for an 06 Chopper. When I test drove the chopper I heard the tapping noise from the front left side of the engine. It was so loud by the time the test drive was over I was afraid something was going to blow up. Remembering threads here in the forum, I told the dealer that until the noise was resolved it wouldnt' be mine. Thanks to the dealer and BD as they stepped in to resolve the issue pre-delivery. Even though the chopper was out of factory warranty, the dealer tore into the top end and sent the parts to BD. BD responded with a total new topend for the engine. BD says the engine had an unusual amount of wear (<5K) in the front topend. They replaced everything from the jugs up with new parts.

We test drove the chopper today and it sounds great. No tapping noise. I make the trade tomorrow. I'll have to update the profile as I say goodbye to the Pitbull and hello to the new Chopper.

Great story, Bear - glad you pressed the issue enough to have it fixed - BDM is great about such issues - sounds like you'll have a nice stable new ride.

New Dog Old Dog

Picked up the new (used) 06 Chopper yesterday. It's a fantastic looking bike with red frame and red/silver flames on the bodywork. Will get my profile updated and new pics of the new ride later today. Drive home was terrific. No noise from the engine other than from the Mean Mother pipes after the new headwork. Great weather here too in the high 60s, perfect for the short trip home, no jacket required.

It was also nice to meet the new owner of my previous 02 Pitbull. He was taking delivery of it yesterday when I picked up my Chopper. He bought it while it was still in the service area; it never hit the showroom floor. Actually he's not too far away so maybe we'll do some riding together. Since the dealer didn't know too much about BDMs I reviewed the Pitbull with him from top to bottom. I also made sure he knew about the forum so I look for him to be on here soon. Nice to see my Pitbull going to good home and to someone who'll take good care of it.

There's a poll on here asking "would you buy another BDM." My answer and now my action proves my answer would be YES.

Great to hear!! I've got an 06 Chopper and love it!! I also ended up having the entire top end re-done last spring. So far, BDM has been great to deal with!

I couldn't make this stuff up if I tried.

So I met the guy who purchased my previous 02 Pitbull last Saturday as I was taking delivery of my 06 Chopper. Great guy...in total bike lust over the Pitbull. We traded phone numbers and both were happy with our new rides. I get a call today from my dealer following up on my purchase and to give me an update...sorta ...

It seems the guy who bought my Pitbull had it for 2 hours and 35 miles before laying it down in a curve. He went one way, the cycle went another. The guy had just a few scraps and bruises (thank goodness); in fact he was back at his job today. He told the dealer he overshot a curve and leaned too far left and caught the peg. They trailered the Pitbull in Saturday afternoon before the dealership even closed.

I drove over to the dealership to see the carnage. Sure enough the entire left side of the Pitbull was pretty bad, bars bent back, headlight hanging, left primary scrapped, forward control bent back on the side, shift lever bent back, left gas tank flattened, license plate...what plate? (gone). My heart just sank. Shop forman says the Pit will take approx. 9000.00 worth of re-constructive work to get it back on the rubber side. They won't know more until they tear into the Pitbull to do inspections to the frame, transmission and engine.

Let's hope this saga has a good ending.
