new brake switch sensor needed

hey guys how can I get a new brake sensor wire that plugs into the handle bar switch. all I need is the wire with the sensor and plug on it. mine has a short in it, either stays on all the time or dont work when the brake lever is pulled. sensor is cracked. I most-likely bent it at some point. Please help me find one.

So there are two parts to the brake switch and it's just a magnet. I'll be honest I'm willing to bet you don't have a short as it's not really possible, unless something is wrong with the connection to the circuit board. Even if the magnet is cracked its still a magnet...

I would be willing to bet you don't have it adjusted properly for the clutch pull, or the set screw in the housing isn't holding the reed switch were it should and it's moving around on you. I would check those first.

Regardless if it comes down to it and you really need a new sensor you can buy the reed sensor at digikey.com. If you do a search I think someone posted the part #.

Thanks Eric, but when I had the wire out of the magnet I can move it back and forth in the middle, the light comes on and goes off. the magnet is not in the picture. Then when I put the sensor back into the hole where the magnet is the light stays on all the time or it is off.
thats why I am leaning towards a short or damage sensor.

You are saying you can take the magnet in one hand and the wire in another and wiggle it and make the light come on and off? Without it being near the clutch lever?

Eric, im saying that the wire going from the back of the switch board plugs into the other half of the (BRAKE)lever. it goes into the back of the hole where the magnet is. when I remove it from the back of the magnet and only move or wiggle it on the end (sensor) my brake lights come on and off. when I install it back into the back of the magnetic switch the brake lights either come on and stay on or when I move it they go out. if I hold it just right and move the lever the lights come on but the wire is unstable to assume anything else. thanks agian mike

Mike, you have totally lost me here.... no wires go/come from the magnet... only the sensor has got wires and they go to the switch board.

Franco, are you saying that the sensor that comes out of the switch board should not go into the hole that the magnet is in on the other half of the purch???. if so where does the sensor go.

You have to make sure the sensor is the right distance away and then you have a minute little set screw to tighten that holds it in place. If you can push the sensor in and out and the light goes on and off then the sensor is okay you just need to set it to the proper depth and then tighten the set screw

The magnet should be glued to the lever and the sensor goes into the hole in the main housing conected to the pcb and tighten in there by that wee screw.

Hey guys, just wanted to thank you all for your help, I ordered and got a a new sensor from hamlin, I had to splice it in to the board, I guess that the confussion in all my post was the outer cover of the old sensor is what was left in the purch. the sensor had pulled out of it. I just marked it with a sharpie before I removed it and marked the new sensor the same spot then just installed it to the mark and it all worked the first time i tried it. I even got in about 50 miles and when I got home it was still working, thats a plus for me lol....Thank you all again.
