NEW BIKE - WHERE TO GET VIN

Hi,
Hope someone can help or guide where to contact. Story goes like this....
Bought a brand new Big Dog in Sweden from a acution house. This bike has never been used, looks great, drives great (after new gas and some fine tuning), but the trouble is. IT DID NOT COME WITH ANY ID OR REGISTRATION DOCUMENTS. (Dealer in Sweden went belly up and they were too fed up and destroyed all docs.)

I understand there is no maker to provide any such a details or papers, but would there be anyone anywhere who is able to help on this? Do new documents based on bike vin number etc. OR alternately, would there be anyone who has papers for a frame or project (parting) bike and would like to sell papers alone. That would enable me to make new VIN number for the bike and inspect it and get license plate.

Below is picture of the bike, need to say it is nice and would not change anything on it.

Regards, Harri

Welcome from Coastal SC - in the states we would go to the division of Motor vehicles. They would have the correct paperwork to fill out for lost titles

Thanks.

This bike has never been registered so in that way, papers are not lot, they have never been existing (at least registration papers). And as I or the bike is not located in US, it may not work to get title docs there?

So would only way to be just bying frame with papers?

In Sweden, this bike could be registered under "DIY built", but then I would loose original ID of the bike and that would be the last way to do it. I like ot keep it BD in documents as well.

If you bought it at an auction it had to be cheaper than buying it from the dealer that went bell up. So I would just register it anyway you can even if its "DIY" and enjoy riding it. If the intention was to buy it and sell it, you prolly should have checked for paperword before buying. It does have a vin#

You can register it as an DIY in Sweden! Good for you. In Finland that bike would be spare parts! No way of getting it registered here.

Not exactly true, there are ways to register as a xxx bike in Finland too, though not necessary too widely discussed in forums

In Sweden you can not buy new bike like that any more so not sure about the price. These were last bikes sold. It was made clear to all bidders, documents were destroyed by those fellows, so do not worry, I was aware of it too.

The point is, I would like try to register bike as BD if possible. If it becomes too troublesome, then "DIY build" will do as well. I am not making money with my toys, never sold any yet.

The VIN is stamped in to the frame. First off you must find out if tax was paid on it, then make the decision of whether you want to pay the taxes (if not paid) or register it as a DIY bike. If taxes are paid then registering it should not be that big of a deal for you. The BDM is as we all know gone, and any help from there is water under the bridge. Good luck to ya visiting the DMV, I sure hope it works out for ya.

Tjenare och velkommen til forumet.
