My Goodyear rep stopped by yesterday. We are trying to get their belt division to make a run of 3” Karata 20218 belts. Is anyone here interested in a spare or in need of a belt? Thought I would put an order together if this is an option since they are discontinued.
That would be great if that happens. I have a Karata on my 06 K9 and would love to have a spare belt!

Should be but hasn't been. 3" 127 tooth 8mm belt, I hve not been able to locate one. Called BDL as well to check with them. Was wondering if anyone in the group has a line on one.
Thanks Mike
Hi :) have you checked instagram? Lots of pages with used Karata parts. I can’t remember send you a few if you message me on the Karata Instagram page or just searching there are a good amount of parts floating around. Hope that helps! I’m sorry you haven’t been able to find one

I just looked at Instagram and there isn’t much there. You really have to dig. What I did see wasn’t worth the time and effort or I wouldn’t trust putting it on my bike. I only saw 1 4” wide belt post and it was already sold. Everything else was 1.5”. Most of the parts would take a lot of work to restore, but for those of us that already have the drives and need the belts, this doesn’t help. You would think there would be unsold stock left over. I will keep looking for a spare belt.

Welcome to karata . Hope you can find something that fits.

I did find this option: https://vbeltoutlet.com/product/std-s8m-1016-127-teeth-timing-belt/ I have the 20218 belt on my Karata, so that is 3" wide 127 teeth with a pitch of 8mm.
From their website it looks like they can make a custom belt. I don't know if this would work. Might be worth a shot at $30. From my limited expertise, if the belts are able to handle the torque as a timing belt, I think it would work for our sleds. What do ya'll think? I could be way off base.

That might be the ticket. Worth a shot anyway!

I called them and a couple other manufacturers. All advised that they are low rpm and would not hold up in this application. These would strip the belt teeth from the belt per their engineering department.

nymikeok, thanx for doing the legwork. Thats really unfortunate. I guess we will have to continue to search. Luckily my belt is still in great shape. I just want a spare or 2 in case “Justin“ shows up.

Man that sucks. Only thing to do there is switch it back to a wet/closed primary. Still be a beautiful bike.
:chopper:

One of the old ones.
There was a 4” Karata open on my K9 when I bought it from Train Man. I had problems with it bcs the steel clutch plates chopped little grooves in the inner basket so the clutch would stick and drag my ass out into intersections.—I bought and installed a new drive belt because one time I hit some gravel and some of it poked a few small holes in the original belt. It was fine and totally operational but I didn’t like the way it looked. Bought a new clutch pack and replaced (again) the inner basket and put the ‘turnkey‘ 4” Karata for sale on the Forum. No interest or offers for a month or two and then a guy called from Tulsa who was building a show bike. So sorry to say I never got his name or anything else about him as we dealt with cash. I told him about the troubles I had with the inner basket and he said he didnt care as he wasn’t planning to ride it—just show it. That was at least two maybe 3 years ago. If you can find someone showing a BD K9 with that Karata open primary around Tulsa, I bet he has the backup belt on a shelf somewhere. A bike like that would be known. Again, not a perfect, but very serviceable 4” belt for years to come……. He was building a serious show bike so I think if you know where to look you might be able to find him. Good luck Amigo…..
