2004 RECALL announcement: refer to NHSTA site or call BDM, harness connection problems on many 04 models, possible "shutdown" while riding

Hey guys...talked to Bob at BDM about this. This recall is basically a throwback to the dielectric grease service bulletin. There is an issue with the connection where the harness meets the EHC. This recall is only for 2004 BDMs with the ORIGINAL EHC. If the EHC has been previously been replaced or had a conversion done then the recall does not apply. And we all know that if someone has an original EHC on an '04 then they are indeed lucky...those things never lasted long...and are $600 to replace.

Thanks for the info Amy, come back and do an intro for us. You'll love it here and we need more women riders.

I still have the original ehc in my o4 pitbull. bigdog warranty guy in winston salem(kendall johnson customs) said today bring it down and he will fix it under warranty. not sure what the fix is. It is full of grease and strapped down with a bungy right now and working fine. I will let you know how it turns out.

Did not turn out too good. The fix for the recall was to check for corrosion and apply dielectric grease. The loose connection of the plug/ehc was not fixed and my bike died in traffic on the way home. Shop say plug is not covered.

Just got off the phone with Bob as well. Tried to see if my now dead, and original EHC would somehow be covered under warranty. It is not??? The new EHC parts are now over $830.00 and are back ordered til late August. He did tell me about the Wire-plus set up, and though they are not affiliated he does recomend them. Shame on you BDM for knowing about and letting this problem go on for so long. Looks like I will be going the Wire-plus system.

In BDM's defense, at least they are mentioning alternative options to people like the WIRE+

Plenty of bizzs would never do that....

I believe mine went out a couple hours ago going up the interstate towards a poker run. It was running great, then it just stalled out, quit like it ran out of gas. The dangerous part then began. I was following my daughter in the left lane , 3 lanes of lots of traffic when it quit running. I eased of the road to a very narrow shoulder to keep from getting run over. I needed to get to the right side where the shoulder was wider and at least safer. This guy saw my situation and slowed down with flashers going and blocked traffic enough for me to get my 2004 ridgeback across to a much safer area to be stranded. He was a fellow rider, and a real life saver today. We found the wire that goes to the module not connected. The connection had come off. We re-attached it only to get the neutral light, the oil pressure light, and nothing else , including starting is working yet. The guy at the shop we took it too said the modules were crap and had , had lot of problems with them. What they kinda said they are thinking it is before they check it out has something to do with this electrical stalling. I understand the connection on the wire breaking, stalling, but the replacement for this part being $529.00 is phycotic. It should not cost anything to get the bike running again with all the electrical issues BD has with this should have been recalled sooner , rather than hitting the owners with a $600 tab. He checked the plug in on the module and put the grease on it too, didn't help. Everyone of these modules should be replaced at no cost to the owners. By the Grace of God today I was not ran over in traffic. Reconnecting the wire should have got it running again but it didn't. It will probably be trailered home in a few days to set the rest of the summer.$ 600 bucks is not in the budget, and I find out this is an on going issue with these modules and electrical issues to boot.

Maybe the heat standing on the side of the interstate has me still ticked off, But I am thankful for the help I received from fellow riders and the fact I did not get hurt or even worst today,

Amen brother...thank God you weren't hurt! WOW, what a scare!!!:willy_nilly::panic2:
I've often wondered about that...what would happen if the bike crapped out in this ridiculously heavy traffic up here and I was in the wrong lane...yikes!

Anybody know what the link is for Wiire-Plus? I think I'm gonna get a jump on my inevitable problem BEFORE it actually happens!

All I can say is good F'n luck,I could not even get so much as new grommets out of BDM,the tab that holds the gas tank to the frame broke(recall:due to faulty grommets, tank tab may break).Well because the recall did not include the Wolf(like they use diff.grommets on every model:job:)they would not take care of the tab or grommets, which by the way from the tank shifting caused the dash bolt to pull through, resulting in having to purchase a new dash(painted $350,i believe was the price). Great customer service:job:.That's BS it has to be the orig. ECH,of course guy's changed out,if they had a prob.they got it fixed.BDM should step up and reimburse.
