you need to track the wires down.. mark em with red & black elect tape.. the neg(grounds ) will go to the frame or any metal serface on the bike,, the pos to the starter stud. becarefull there are a few smaller wires that are important to keep up with 2.. or youll fry the ehc..

I got started and then I turned it off to hook up the bunge cord to secure the battery.I restarted it and then the neg side started smoking again.I think I have a problem with those two small wires that go to the neg side.

Thats me,a 5 mintue job changing a battery became a 3 hour job until I realized there was a problem with the battery.I charged the old one up and said fuck it and took a long ride to clear the head with my fake tags.
Yeah I am not off to a good start owning this bike, but I still love it.

Whenever I take the wires off my battery, for safe keeping and to keep things absolutely straight, I string a tie wrap through each collection of wires to make sure nothing gets mixed up by mistake.:2thumbs:

not an answer to your question, just a recommendation. when removing the battery, have a couple small wire ties handy and as you remove the wires from a terminal place a wire tie around all the wires that came off that terminal before moving on to the other terminal. this way, no confusion about what goes where. doesn't help now but might in the future.

It turns out the connections were right but you need to make sure the connections are tight or it will smoke.

:bang:well... i think i fucked up! the 2 big wires are marked, one red and the other one is black. no big of a problem there. than i have 2 small wires that i back tracked. one goes to the voltage regulator (VR), and the other one goes undder the tank, toward the EHC. wich one goes to the positive and wich one goes to the negative? by the way, i don't have a ground wire hooked to my battery, do you suggest installing one?
thanks for the help
