The label say's it's for aluminum. What does ammonia do to Billet?
I'll quote BDMRidgeback as I believe he summed it up pretty good:

If you are using liquid polishes or pastes, be sure that they do not contain ammonia, anhydrous chemicals, or acids. Ammonia and anhydrous chemicals prematurely age aluminum, cause tarnishing and rampant re-oxidization. These chemicals are used by many manufacturers to attack oxidization and generate follow up sales, as they look great for a week or two, then the ammoniates or anhydrous goes to work and does a wonderful job of fading quite evenly. The trouble is these chemicals continue the oxidization process too, and often etch into the metals - which is even worse. That is why some polish removes the tarnish really, really fast. That doesn't mean the polish is the best it usually means it has a very high content of ammonia!!! Very Bad for the long term look of your polished parts.

That right there is why I threw my tube of MAAS away as soon as I smelled ammonia, not because I enjoy smelling detailing products, or because the smell bothered me, but because I didn't want to damage my aluminum.

However, it's your bike, do what you want....

So does anybody know about "Mothers" does it contain amonia? I use it on aluminum. I use another polish (can't recall the name) on the chrome. :loony:

According to the MSDS sheet on Mothers Billet Polish it does not contain ammonia.

I've used MAAS in the past on aluminum, but found it didn't clear out swirl/brush marks like Mother's Billet Aluminum Polish.

And a bad experience has made me leery of using any kind of "paste" polish on show chrome, as crystals in paste can leave hairline scratches.

If you are gonna use this stuff, store it in a heated area and not on a shelf in a cold garage over the winter (which accelerates crystallization).

That's my :zz2cents: :yesnod:

I have a tube, jar, can of every polish made, at least that I know of anyway.

They all are all good some maybe a little better I have the MAAS but I like the Diamond Brite truck box polish from Lowes a little better.

I still think the best is the Wizards in the metal band aid type box.
Just my .02
Ive tryed Diamond Brite also...It shines like diamond in a goats ass...

So the bad news is, after this thread had developed half way, I ponied up and bought this stuff. The good news is, I never updated my PayPal account's address and it's being shipped to my old house! lol

I'll just leave it for the new owners and stick with Mothers Billet Polish.

Low Down Chop Shop

Notice all the products that they show using it on, are indoor items?

MAAS is bad stuff for outside weatherable items, except for stainless. DO NOT use it on aluminum or chrome.

The Ammonia is put in it to quickly break down the corrosion on aluminum or silver, works fast with little work.
But the trade-off to polishes that contain a high level, or any ammonia at that, is the ammonia
causes the aluminum to corrode faster after you get it clean, because it is still within pores.

As for chrome... MAAS will strip the chrome coating off metal after numerous uses. If you have something laying around that is chrome and old, take it to it, and you will see.

MAAS works pretty good on stainless steel, but there is nothing to harm there.

Owned a detail shop for many many years... tried it all and found the bad stuff.

Like I have posted many many times before, Wizards Products are the BEST hands down!
But no, I don't sell the stuff, just use it religiously !!!

Just an update on this Maas polish, talked this over with the guy's in the lab (lockheed) they have some in the chem lab they have been useing for years, it also has a GSA number so its in the goverment listings under metals and polish.
These guy's (Phd's) told me there was NO detramental effects on aluminum or any other metals they have tested.
Mothers is good i use it also, but if i can score this stuff for a good price, what the hell........

After speaking with California Custom Products and Chopper Dave I have decided to stock this line of products. I have my order in and should have it this week. If it makes Daves scoot shine like that how can I go wrong? I will keep you guys posted.

I started using this stuff...makes the billet shine like chrome! I still have Wizards stuff also....
I first used this Purple polish last summer when Beezer(he had me try this stuff) changed out my front and rear tires...polished the rims up nice :2thumbs:
so I bought a bottle...works great!:whoop:

California Custom does work extremely well, I happens into it at a big rig supply and bling store. They also have a product for really dull aluminum that will really make it polish to a mirror!
I've put my bottles of de nova shine back on the shelf and it works great also:)
