Does anyone know about these new beasts? Not too familiar with Big Jim's transmissions. Did they completely do away with the old style harness? I forgot what a mess the factory harness was until I went by a shop today and saw a K9 being tore apart.. anyways I was on the edge of possibly going towards a new unit and getting rid of my bike.. ridding of my bike was an idea I quickly decided was a bad idea being mine was one of a kind. Lol.. anyways just curious if anyone knew much about the new bikes. Thanks

You may forget the woman's name, but you never forget the ass. Blacktopper has one custom built with a 330 tire. I'm hearing nothing but good stuff about the new Dogs. During their down time the last few years, they have been doing a lot of redoing, concentrating on the weak point of the past. I can't wait to get one myself.

As Mr. Wright said, they have been doing a lot of redesigning, especially on the electrical system. I have heard nothing but positive feedback on the new models and the new S&S 124ci engine. I'll be checking one out in Texas next month. I expect the 2016's to be exceptional machines of the highest quality, after all, they are Big Dog Motorcycles!

my 04 has Baker guts in a Jims case
So does mine. IF the new bikes have trans built by Jims then that would be great. IF they have engines built by S&S that would be great but IF they go the cheap route (again) and build them themselves it will be the same ole, same ole....

Well as far as engine and trans, big dog has been the best on the market in their scene. Rated above American ironhorse and so on.. but their electrical is what I'm scared about with the new bike. Mine has a complete new harness which is a lot more simple and takes up considerably less room and vintage harley controls and new style digital gauges which eased my mind on any problems that might have occurred. I see the new bikes are pretty much identical to the old ones. They did away with some of the standard features like the belt covers and rear foot pegs that I believe we're pretty standard. I just hope for their sake they have put a lot of time into the electrical aspect of it. I really want one kinda just to have one, but would be really bummed to spend 33k on a bike that replicates mine with more problems. So that's why I'm reaching out to the Big Dog brotherhood for the feels on the "New Big Dog".

The engine is 100% built by S&S now.

The Trans is 100% built by Jims.

The electrical system no longer uses the proprietary EHC used by big Dog 2004-2011. The new system is based upon the Thunderheart MHC system that we have been using in the EHC RIP kits (Big Dog EHC Replacement kits) for over 3-years. It is waterproof, shock-proof, and nearly bullet-proof. We have a video coming out very soon that shows us running over the computer with our 3500 dually, submerging it completely under water, dragging it behind the motorcycle while running, and even shooting it with a shotgun. I say all of this to make the point that I simply don't know to make a more reliable wiring system than the one currently used in the 2016 models.

The speedo is Dakota Digital.

I would be happy to go into much greater detail if you want to give me a call. 316-260-8039.

I have 8000 miles on my 2016 K9 and it is by far the best big dog I ever owned ( this is my 5th one) The motor, clutch, transmission, and electronics have performed flawlessly You won't go wrong dealing with Matt and his Staff.
There are several subtle improvements that you don't realize until you have a chance to get to know it. For instance the oil tank is just enough different that you can actually see the drain plug. And the plug is a tapered pipe plug you can get at a hardware store for $.49 not at the Harley dealer for $5.00 and you don't have to worry about over tightening it because it is twice the size of the old ones and no o ring to worry about, and you will never strip out the inside.

Thank you Matt for the information. I'm excited to see the new model K9 soon. All the details look excellent!
