Neutral Safety Switch

Good evening all I am changing my neutral safety switch on my 2004 Big Dog Chopper how do you get the two plug wire off the switch without breaking it so it won’t stay on!!!

I believe it should slide off the switch in the direction of the wires. Gently pull toward the wire side of the connecter .

Yep just did that got switch changed out still no darn neutral light.

All that switch does, is make a ground connection. Find the wire on the back of the speedo, that goes to the N light, and put power to it and see if it come on.

How you doin sir? If I take the two wires off can I check continuity thru them. And also is this a separate bulb for the neutral light and if so how do you change it? Thanks!!!

The light is an LED that is part of the tach/Annunciator. You can see it in the picture link.

You should be able to jumper the 2 wires at the connector and test if the led illuminates.

I've been there.
Open up the speedometer - 99% chance water has got inside and since the Neutral light is the lowest point - that's what gets wet. Look at the circuit board, I'm betting you will see corrosion on the back side of the board
If you are lucky - you can take a brush and brush the corrosion away and it plug it back in and see if it works. If it does - coat the circuit board with clear nail polish or something to protect it.
Most likely you will need to replace the board in order to get the Neutral light to come on - They are a common part you can get from Curtis or Donna and Derrik.
But maybe you will get lucky with brushing off the circuit board,

Thank you but I have to ask how in the world does this speedometer come apart? All threaded? Set screws?

Look at the link. Take bolts 11 and 12 out first. You have to access from under the mount. Lift it up the take 13 out. Then it just slides apart.

Looks like every one has you covered. If you get the light to light up, then you have a loose or corroded connector along the back bone some where. Electrical problems sometimes are fun to track down.

But I guess my main question is to take wires from neutral safety switch and run 12 volts to it along with a ground to see if it lights up?

Yes, check the LED first, if it's good, start checking wires

So I have not taken Speedo off yet but does the wire that goes into just unplug or do you have to open speedo up first to get wires loose. I am gonna test with 12 volts & ground first...

There is a plug for the ring and one for the speedo, once you get the housing apart.

Just use a paper clip at the plug to check the light first.
Put clip in and turn power on. Light should lite up if ok.
