Sad day. Sold the pitbull. :loony: Tendon is torn in the clutch elbow that requires surgery at the end of this month. Probably tore the damn thing polishing the bike so much. So I will be out for a couple or few months.
(Sold the bike to a cool guy for a good price so I am happy about that.)
The elbow along with the shitty roads here (and the polishing) fueled the decision to abort the pitbull. But.........knowing firsthand the quality of BDM, I will be back. Thats where I need some feedback.
I found the '06 pitbull to be a very stiff ride through the turns. I rode my friends ridgeback and found it to handle surprisingly easier through the turns as well as be more forgiving on the rough roads. Is it me or does anyone else notice this.
I am starting to look at used bdm choppers. :D There seems to be more of those up for sale at pretty low prices. How does this model compare to the others as far as the ride goes. Can you guys shed some light on this model and right vs. left side drive on this model. And are there any specific years to avoid?

Poi;

RSD is the way to go. 06 and 07 seemed to be good years. Have you seen the sweet 08 Pitbull--it has a sprung seat!

I will have to disagree with Gas Man on the 05 Thing as well, Even though the 05 is Left side Drive, it does come STOCK with a 600 Cam, it also comes Stock with a OEM Primary that is interchangable with a Primo Brute III, which would also mean that the trans is a Straight Baker and not a BDM Hybrid. Comes Stock with a 2 into 1 Kerker Pipe as well, and I tell you what, this Pipe needs nothing as far as sound. If I had it to do Over, I'd be looking at an 05 or 06 Ridgeback.
Wow wow Hot Rod! Your one year early. Your talking about an 04! In 05 they changed to the RSD and DSSC primary.
But I would disagree cause of restrictor plates and an E carb. The plates are easily pulled and the E carb is fine for the motor especially if it's xXx'd.

But having lived in Hawaii for 7 years I would agree poi dog that you need to move to the Ridgeback if you want to stay with the rigids. It flexes real nice.

Later,
Ray

re

I have the 05 RB...restrictor plates are easy to remove. I still have the E carb not XXX'd yet. It's still quick off the line and it gets great gas mileage.

Get one with AIR Ride, the only way to go.
Good luck with the surgery, I had that done about 8 years ago. Lots of PT and Pain but it's worth it!

Ray & Blitz, I have an 04 RSD 117 Bulldog. Don't know if it's just the bulldogs that have this combo.

I have an 06 K9 with the air ride and love it. I can slam it and have the look/ride of a hard tail but then air it right up and it's like riding a couch. I'd snag a used K9 and throw on an air ride, it was bike of the year.

^I answered your other thread too but it's the big dog one. it's a plug/play setup and cheaper than most on the market anyway...and carries a warranty...

Any problems with the Dog Air Ride?

I was at my local Dog House today and asked about adding air ride to my 07 Mastiff and was told they leak real bad. If the ride is much better than stock leaks and all is it worth it?

What leaks? The air cylinders or the fittings?

I had originally checkout the BDM air shocks for my ride. Two dealers (one whom I trust) both said they had nothing but quaility problems with leaking cylinders. The one I trust told me to go with the Legends...

I was just going to suggest that Legends makes a good air suspension system. My buddy has not had a problem and has had them for about 3 years. Says it's an awesome system.

Be careful about the BDM Air Ride rumors - like other issues, Big Dog went through some problems, but they now claim to have worked them out. The biggest problem (I was told at the factory), was with the pressure guage, which kept blowing out. The basic system was not bad. Hoat (I believe) installed it, and loves it! All I'm saying is, just be sure you get CURRENT rumors, not the old ones.

mine leaked at first but a fitting wasn't tight. I haven't had a problem since. I know they were having problems with the gauges leaking but I didn't do a gauge anyway so no worries there. I love it, the ride is much better. Once you find the sweet spot depending on your load it almost floats down the highway.

If I remember correctly I talked Hoat into his too...I think the dealers are being lazy. Also, it's a 2 hour job per big dog, don't let them try and jack you on the install.

They tried to charge me 4 hours for that job and if you count its 8 bolts not including the gage and some tubing and 4 wires 2 of which are already factory wired so they just pop in. great mod still trying to find the sweet spot but the load is always changing!! hahaha
