Need wiring harness for 98 Pitbull ASAP

Riding yesterday and new battery died, jumped it off and headlight blew. Changed light and jumped it off n fired right up. Made it about 40 feet and started smoking under speedo. Removed rt side tank and smoke coming from little black box, I think for turn signals.

You may not need a complete wire harness. Troubleshoot the headlight circuit and replace any damaged wiring. Headlights draw a lot of current and like to melt stuff when they short out. After that check your charging system. Consider, you may have had a failing charge system and replaced the battery thinking it was the problem. Now the new battery goes dead ( because of bad charging system) then you jumper the bike and inadvertently caused the new headlight issue.

About zero information on 98 bikes but it's got Harley style everything. So whatever you need you can go with aftermarket Harley stuff.

Sounds like you have a short somewhere, you can either look for the short or put in one of the many Harley aftermarket units on the market. NamZ makes one that is pretty good. New unit would be a complete rewire.

I'm sorry, just now seeing the comments. Thank you guys for the advice....I ended up taking my pitbull to a harley guy local to me. Left it 3 months, and he replaced .voltage regulator, stator, spark plugs, intake manifold gaskets, and now 1700 dollars later.....it still doesnt run. see pics....he assures me that if I buy a used ignition module it'll fire rt up. I hope so. Otherwise....idk what I'm gonna do w it.

Sounds like your Harley mechanic didn't know how to troubleshoot your bike but rather replaced parts and hoped for the best.
Why let someone else screw up your bike when you can do it yourself??!!

Personally, rewire the whole :moped:. Take the POS brain and throw it in the trash. I did that 3 years ago and have had absolutely no problems at all. If a light goes out, I don't have to worry about my tires going flat or my paint fading. Two fuses and that's it. It costs me $1500. I have an 05 with a carb.

DynoDave's question above is critical to solving the ignition issue. If you have a Thunderheart EHC, it is essentially an electronic module that replaces your ignition and all of your standard relays. Is that the the black box that burned up? If not, the Thunderheart does have a secondary ignition module that is a smaller black box. Is that what burned up?. If it is the latter, you can still contact Thunderheart directly and talk to a tech (or at least you could pre-Covid three years ago). Thet ignition module can be bypassed and you can install a traditional nose cone ignition on your EVO bike. If the Thunderheart did not burn up it will work with a traditional ignition. If its possible it all burned up, I would recommend going the route Eric suggested which is a Namz harness. I did that to my 2000 Vintage and could not be happier.
