:feedback: I want to know what you guys think. For real. Please don't tell me that if I am questioning them, I already know the answer. Just want honest answers. As alot of you know I recently bought my '07 K-9, and it has VERY low miles. Not even 850 yet!!! YES.... 8-5-0!!! GOTTA LOVE IT, RIGHT??!! BUT.... Do I change the tires, or not. No wear. No cracks. But a little hard. I can't tell how much harder than when new, but the bike was a garage puppy since it was bought. just sitting. whatta' y'all think??? :loony::rant::confused:

Unless you see 'dry-rot' cracks in the sidewalls, I'd put the right amount of air in them and ride those puppies. Should be good for another 5-6K miles, at least. Check the valve stems too, and check tire pressure every couple days to see if there's any leaking.

would just keep an eye on them, will be changing them soon enough, only had 6700 miles on my rear tire when it was past wear bars

valve stems

yea...I had perfectly good tires, but the valve stems (same age as the tires) were both cracking. When I was washing the wheels, one cracked so badly the air came rushing out unless I held it in just the right position. I had to replace both stems, but the tires were good; and still are.

FYI,

I recently looked at my 2008 Ridgeback back tire and next to the DOT is a number 3704 which means it was manufactured in the 37th week of 2004. This tire still has over half its tread with 3700 miles. The new tire I purchased from Dennis Kirk has a number 3209 which means it was manufactured in the 32nd week of 2009.

In terms of beer, it is kind of like a born on date but the best by date is up in the air.

A tire that is outside for 10 years will not be in as good of shape as most our dogs in the garage. I would do as advised by the above responses and ride the heck out of it while searching for the best price on new tires. Avon is offering $25 off for one tire and $50 off two as discussed in another thread.

I bought my 07 mastiff last year, only 1300 miles and had been garage kept too. Have put 2500 more miles since then and the tires still look good. I just keep an eye on them. I think you will be fine to ride on them for a good while.

All good advice! that's exactly what I was lookin' for. To ride 'em for a while was my first thought, and then I started second guessing myself.:bang: I hate when that happens! THANKS FELLAS!!!

If its been garage kept like everyone else is saying no dryrot no problem. I've been in the tire business for 20 years and i've seen people ride on alot older tires.:2thumbs:

This is what gets Rub excited from what I can tell. I am surprised he hasn't responded yet. He must be in the can taking care of business :job: over the good news.:D

PS I screwed up. The Avon rebate was through May 15. Sorry about that.:(

If theres no dryrot or cracking I would surely use them...
I agree , I still have the original rear tire on my 04 but it has less than 5,000 on it. I replaced the front tire last year cause it was dry rotting. The back one still looks good , possibly this year ..

04 rear tire Venom with a 12,400 miles on it. Not a lot of miles on an 04, but plenty on a tire. Replaced my front tire between 8 and 9. But the back still looks like it has atleast 2 to 3 left on it.. I've thought about swapping it out, but there are no cracks, and I've got a good distance until I get to the wear bars.. The local dog mechanic, can't believe how well they are doing... I figure I will ride through out the summer, and if Sturgis is a go, I will swap them out before I leave.. Or earlier if needed.
