Need Some Help Fellas!!

Myself and the wife were out for a ride last night and on the way home the bike just died. Was able to turn the ignition key off and back on while coasting and it fired right back up. Did this about 5 more times within about 10 miles. Headlight, speedo and tach would go out but motor was still running. Couldnt give it any throttle but it would stay running for a few then shut down. Cycle key and fired up again each time and finally was able to make it home. Was late so I havent had a chance to look at anything yet. Just need some suggestions on where to start my investigation.

Sign of a weak battery. Do a load test.
The ECH will shut everything down if not enough power to it.

Load test the battery, check the charging system, and battery connections. After that, check the key switch and two connectors going to the key switch. One is under the ignition cover and the other on the backbone under the gas tank.

I replaced the connector under the ignition switch cover and I have had two shutdowns in maybe a month. I am going to solder the connector under the gas tank next since it should not move much and you have to have a small connector like JST to go with a new connector. A good solder joint and shrink wrap will eliminate this as a source of shutdowns.

The EHC gets grounded via the key ignition switch to turn on. So, a good electrical path is important.

I noticed a big difference replacing the connector under the ignition cover. I went from shutdowns every day to rare ones.

Finally got home to take a look at the scoot. Took the seat off and immediately I think I have found the guilty culprit!

Cable looks like it has a couple of spot where it melted the insulation or got to hot. You may want to make sure that sucker is tight on both the battery and starter mounting bolt. :2thumbs:

Thanks for the looking out Carlos. Two of the spots further up are from being wedged under the screw that holds the side covers in place.
