Howdy Friends!,
So the bikes been in the shop for the last 3 weeks due to a bad cam/oil lines/rollers/plug wire/tuning issues.Everything has been replaced. Bike has been put back together and now only runs on the front cylinder. Rear has spark/gas etc...My reputable mechanic has gone through almost every possible scenario and can't figure out the reason. Any idea's?

If it has spark and has fire, I would think it has to be a cam or valve issue. Does it have compression?

Haven't done a cam job on these motors yet so excuse me if this isn't possible for these but, is it possible that the cam for the rear cylinder isn't indexed correctly. meaning the timing of the fire and the valves isn't matching up? Also , are the valves set right?

If all of that it true, it should be lighting up. One of those have to be off.

What was the test to see that the rear cylinder is getting fuel.

If the compression is there, is it matching with the rough timing of the spark? (easy test)

getting any flame-outs out of the exhaust (e.g. unignighted fuel from rear cylinder being set off by exhaust from front) ?

When you say you had a cam failure was it a lobe eaten up? If so you could have a valve sticking in a guide causing either no air to enter the cylinder. Wouldn't think it would be a exhaust valve issue but possible did you make sure the pushrods were not bent?

or a pushrod mixup?

Seems to be purely electrical. Runs on both for a min and cut's to one and then sometimes cut-out's completely. It's happened a few times riding it too completely cutting out. Any idea's?

check wires at coil, unless its been changed should be single fire so signal wires have to go to the right connection.
Yellow wire -front cylinder position( closest to front tire)
Blue wire- rear cylinder position
may be a loose connection if its cutting in and out, go back over everything

I think Ringo might be on to something with the lose wire idea. Also check the simple things like spark plugs and wires, especially if the spark plug wire is touching your cylinders anywhere. When it is firing on one cylinder, move/twist some wires and look for a difference. This sounds more like a lose connection than a big $$$ fix....

Maybe a bad injector? You could swap them to see if the trouble follows the injector. The injectors and spark is controlled by the VFI (EFI) module. Loose wires to the injectors or coil?

My bike was missing under load till I replaced the fuel pump and pickup filter. I did that because the fuel pump was screaming like a fire truck.... You could check the fuel pressure.....just some ideas.

All common things have been checked and remedied. Maybe today will be the day we get some thunder!

Dude I been to that shop in auburn that is workin on your scooter, they know what they are doing,:flag:sounds like maybe a electrical issue like Ringo mentioned before:confused:....strange how it runs totally fine, then starts miss-firing between cylinders and then completely drops a cylinder out.....I dought engine was miss-assembled,it would NEVER run right if it was...Its trying to...check injector connections, check the ECM connection, check your coil wiring and connections, make sure there clean, and packed with di-electric grease, make sure grounds are clean and tight...Also make sure you have no bad connections..I.E.....a wire in a loose, sloppy crimp.....but it looks ok ya know...loose coil connections could make it drop out a cylinder and then bring it back......start with the BASICS,then work your way back to the harder stuff....you guys will find it man....frustrating shit, just keep at it!!!!:2thumbs:

If you haven't done this check do it. Its easy to hook the signal wire to the coil backwards because you will make the connection with coil cover turned around then flip and bolt back to the motor and frame. I have seen it happen.
