I still think that was a ehc add on resistor from bdm or something.. there is some picts here about the early ehc having something like that..

eric,i wonder what would happen if he disconected the box and turned just the key on to see if he has power.im still wondering why this happened after replacing the switch.er was the bike ok before you lost your keys?

Broken wire from the switch? Eric, remember that was the problem I had.

I started the bike right before I lost the keys and had no problems. That was in January. Lost keys, tried a toggle switch, didn't work, bought brand new ignition switch from BD, and still nothing. Tried every connection that has to do with the ignition, and still nothing.

Ray, if starter relay is bad, would that cause no power at all to the EHC?
I imagine but I'm not the electrician expert here. When you turn the key on do you get any lights at all? Headlight? dash lights? anything?

To do electrical troubleshooting you need a multimeter, digital or analog doesn't matter. Switch it onto DC voltage and start with the basics. Battery + battery - . 12 to 13 volts? Now leave the black (-) lead connected to the battery - terminal and check the wires to your ignition switch with the red lead. 1 wire has to be hot (+12vdc). If not then trace them back and find out why. If so the turn the switch on and make sure another wire is now (+12vdc). If not your switch is a piece of shit. Remove it and double check by doing a continuity test on the input and output contacts. Then continue on until you find where the power is stopped. Think of electricity as a water pipe that flows from the battery throughout your bike and back to the battery. Whenever the pipe is broken electricity won't flow. If you don't have experience in machinery electrical troubleshooting find someone who does. This stuff will drive you nuts if you can't proceed logically. An electrical schematic is almost mandatory. It's like a roadmap to where all of your "piping" goes and helps to isolate systems. In your case it's basic since you have NO voltage. Good luck!

I'll chime in. I believe that little black box is a switch that shuts off the headlights when the starter button is pushed. It was put on the early dogs to get max power to the starter. Annd the wire very easily comes loose from the EHC. Take a look there.

I disconnected the new switch and tested the wire with a circuit tester. I am getting no power to my switch at all.
