Need two things from my fellow Big Dog Biker Forum members.

1. Where the hell do I get the wrench for the headlight. I thought I had seen this topic previously but wehnI search all i get is Gm's Phoenix project. Threadson the H/L are so fine and the ring is 5 3/4 " so it is a bitch getting it to thread properly. Figured I would just buy the right tool for the job.

2. needs pics from anyone that has 2 1/2" extended forward controls. i need pics of the left (shifter) side only. Need to see how the spacers are installed front & rear, as my shift rod is way out of whack.

Any & all help is always appreciated.

Back in the old days on the old site (Hotrodbiker not the other one!) when BD used Headwind headlamps I posted after talking to them at an LA bike rally that they would send you the kit free. I remember they got overwhelmed but still sent out the kits.
All the newer bikes us the same headlamps but BD either makes them thereselves or outsources them.

I would still call Headwinds and tell them you have an 03 and bet they would send out the kit. It comes with instructions, couple extra screws, little hex wrenches and a tool for removing the inside ring.

Later,
Ray

For the head light - first take out the 2 small allen screws. Unscrew the chrome trim-ring which should come off pretty easy. Next using an awl place the tip on the lowest dimple on the retaining ring and using a small hammer carefully tap it until it starts to move and then just use the awl to spin it out. There is a wrench for removing the retaining ring you can buy from Nelson (WickedBastardMotorcycles.com) I think is made by or for BDM.

I will send you photos of the forward controls - I extended mine the second day I had the scoot. The kit is easy to install just pay attention to the shift rod so it does NOT hit the frame. You should be able to figure it out - but I will still post some photos in the morning.

Oh, on the shifter rod mine is way out of whack also. I have no spacer in mine as this topic was posted a while back. Some of the newer bikes come with a cone shaped spacer but with the extensions this spacer can't be used cause the pivot point is just perpendicular to the frame downtube.
I'll see if I have a pic of mine but I have no problems and just ensure I keep my heim joints lubricated and in good shape.

No problems so far!!!

Thanks slow I got the light off using an awl. The tool would be useful in reinstalling. On the controls you explain my problem the shifter rod hitting the frame. I assume the cone shaped spacer goes on the fornt but it's not lining up shifter rod is all sideways. a pic would be great.

Ray I just checked the Headwinds web site & my H/L is the same brand they are selling CPI. I will give them a ring and see if I can't get the wrench for free from them.

Might be the same but it's not made by them. If it is it will have their stamp on one side of the two prongs that mount it to the post.
Tell them you have an older model!!!
