need info on my new 05chopper

Energy One
Hey big dog owners,I just got my first chopper(2005 big dog).I am 6'2" and the forward controls are a little close but I could deal with them except the brake lever angle.I have to pull my foot off the peg to apply any rear brake. Also I don't know the difference between the big dog chopper bdm,dt,and rt. I will meed to clean the bike and post some pics.The bike sound really good,I had them put on a super g carb and a set of mean mother pipes.
I also just got back in town and just got the info on the ride in maryland,maybe next time. One other question I live in oceancity and what do you guys use on the billet to help against the salt air.
thanks guys.

the difference in frames is this
BDM = Big Dog Motorcycles frame
RT = Rolling Thunder frame
DT = Daytec frame
Big Dog subbed out frame manufacturing for some of the years.

as far as the controls go for you, the control extension would most like be a good idea for your height on the chopper frame.

WELCOME.

thanks for the input,how do you tell the difference in the frames.and will the existing brake line be long enough.
Welcome Jeff, if you have a Rolling Thunder frame you will see a maple leaf on the right side of the top motor mount as they are made in Canada. If you have a DT you will know cause the front motor mount will be a billet piece that bolts to the frame.
Not sure there was a BDM frame in 05!

Here is a pic of the VIN # identification. If you bike is a RT like mine is then it will have an N designation and the DT will have a T. No listing for a BDM that I think came in 06.

If you get the extended kit it comes with a brake line extension although i didn't use mine and it's been fine without.

Welcome Jeff, You might want to make sure all the recalls have been done on it also, like the pivot bolt recall!!! It's not pretty if the frame gets bent!!

Welcome Jeff, I am 6'2" also and had the same problem with the rear brake. I have recently installed the extended controls which adds about 2 1/2" forward to the controls, big difference and alot more comfy. I didn't use the brake line extension either and see no problems. I have an 05 chopper and I thought mine was a BDM frame, I am going to look again.

Hey Jeff welcome,there is a thread on the site "technical" there is a sub thread right next to it,click on recall bullitins ,look up year and make that should cover you,now to find out if they were done or not,if you bought private,go to bigdogmotorcycles.com,on opening page all the way at the bottom you will see contact us,click,scroll to cust.serv. ask if all recalls and what recalls were done give your vin#and contact info,and if you did buy private,ask to be put on their e-mail list and they will notify you directly if any apply to your bike.Later Lars:cheers: They were more than helpful to me
