Some back ground info on how i got to this point
2008 k9 efi
RIP kit first gen.

2 weeks ago was ridding on beautiful day. About 45 min into the ride bike just shut off no power. Pulled over checked battery and found was dead. Trailered bike home. After inspection vr was not working correctly. Stator was ok based on test. I did notice button on CB was pushed out. Pushed back in. Vr still needed to be replaced. Ordered vr from big dog. What i am having trouble now is when i turn key on i hear fuel pump prime red oil and engine light on then the tack lights start to flash engine will not start but will turn over. I have many dt codes using protune. Cant get dt codes to clear. I havefollowed reset for efi.

With all that said i had ecm replaced 8 mo ago. When i trun key efi pump primes like it should but i dont hear when i turn key off i dont hear pump surge.
First gut its ecm. My question is can the ecm be repaired i now have 2.
Any suggestions
Thanks Mike

I'm guessing you are not getting spark?

It's possible the ignition module could have fried too.

By ECM are you referring to the alumnium box for the RIP?

Not sure uf black box is called ecm or ecu. Its call 55-5029 part number. I replace this before and it fixed my issue. Only different now is flashing of tack a few seconds after i turn the key. It like its telling me i have sensors or faults. And will protune be able to clear faults. Battery is at 13.2 even turn key only drops to 12.9

Oh okay that must be the EFI module? Sorry never worked on the eFi models.

You still have a thunderheart ignition on an efi? is the red light illuminating?

I'd check the COIL before jumping the gun and replacing the ECM/ECU -- Coils do fail due to heat.
You should be able to test it with an ohmmeter (disconnected from plugs and ecm).

You can also, if coil is good try to force a spark. disconnect wires form ecm, apply power to coil and bounce the ground (like the closing of an old point system) and watch for spark on the plug (do not try to start bike this way, just verify coil/spark).

Also check your spark plug cables -- they go bad too -- rarely both at once but I have seen it happen.

Hey phatt i had a similar problem with my 2009 efi k-9 when the vr went bad and partially popped the cb. The ecm was then bad. It stuck the fuel injector drive circuits on wide open. It would pour fuel out of the exhaust. had s&s test the ecm and thats what they found. Try calling tom hammpton or rob creighton at s&s for some input to your problem. As far as clearing the codes if they are active codes the only way you can clear them is to merge the adaptive maps and then clear the codes or down load a new file to the ecm and let it learn again. The historic codes you can clear without doing any of the above mentioned procedures. If s&s is no help pm me your phone number and i will see if i can help you get it straightened out. by the way. if you download a new ecm map be carefull which one you use if your module is unlocked. if you use the big dog factory map it will lock the ecm so you can't make any changes to the map!!!

What kind of voltage regulator did you buy? If its not a cycle electric vr you will probably have problems with it down the road! I went through the original one on my bike and then bought one from drag specialties and it crapped out too! the cycle electric regulator is not the shunt type which just dumps excess voltage to ground. i believe the cycle electric vr has a life time warranty. They will fix it or give you a new one if it goes bad!!! mine has been on the bike for years now with no problems. knock wood!!!

The S&S boxes can get a corrupted box file (software) if they get a rapid on/off power input. This usually happens when there are sparks while connecting or disconnecting the battery. It can also happen when a battery connection gets loose.
