need help with chrome heat shields

I have tried almost everything know to man to remove melted boot marks to a melted rain suit on my own bike and I can tell you what I used and it took it off each and everytime. The product is call Purple Metal Polish and it is made by a company called: California Custom Products Inc. - Waxes & Polishes for Automotive Finishes I have used it on everything from jewelry for my girlfriend to stains on a diesel fuel tank on a over the road tractor, all with amazing results. I had a friend that came by my house all upset about melting something on his brand new pipes, I told him to calm down grab a beer and let the bike cool down. I took some starting fluid while the pipes we're still a little warm and wiped over the worst of it and handed him my bottle and told him to grab another beer and set down in the driveway on my rolling stool and gave him a micro-fiber towel. The first try almost half came off, the second try you could barely see it, the third try it was completely gone and my friend so happy he could do backflips in a telephone booth. No stains, no scratches, no damage. I would give it a try if the other suggestions don't work....

Cooked on microfiber rag
Like Eric, I made the mistake of touching my brand new pipes with a microfiber rag. After doing some research I settled on trying NON heavy duty oven cleaner. I warmed the bike up for three minutes, Which was probably too long. Then I sprayed the oven cleaner on a rag and wiped the pipes. I tried this until the pipes cooled to what I estimate to be 150 deg. Farenheit (about 15 min.). The results were poor; so I tried Turtle Wax chrome polish. I got immediate results and continued until the mess was almost completely gone. It still took almost an hour, but no scratches are visible. I feel confident that one more application on warm pipes will finish the job.

I've never tried Nevr-Dull on melted plastic but I've used it on everything else! It's definitely a "must have" in the cleaning arsenal and it sure wouldn't hurt like some the other things mentioned in this thread! :2thumbs:
